Job Description
Clinical Laboratory Manager who will serve as supervisor of the Surgical Pathology Gross Room (GR) Laboratory and Tissue Procurement Services (TPS) within the Anatomic Pathology Branch of the Department of Pathology.

Responsibilities

Manages and oversees the daily laboratory operations related to clinical and research activities including receipt of specimens, data entry into various information system applications, frozen section services, grossing of tissue and/or procurement of remnant tissue for research, coordination of technical work flow activities between histology and/or autopsy services, and communication with pathology physician leadership and research investigators related to technical management of surgical tissues; oversees and manages clinical and research staff including the hiring process; all technical training activities and requirements; competency assessment activities as required by regulatory guidelines; annual performance assessment; and when needed, employee disciplinary activities; manages and maintains a current GR and TPS standard operating policy and procedure manual; oversees and manages quality control and quality assurance activities pertaining to clinical and research tissue and related grossing or procurement for research; reports and discusses quality activities to the Anatomic pathology Technical Quality Improvement Committee; works in conjunction with other lab supervisors and faculty pathologists to ensure accurate and thorough operational compliance; investigates and manages issues of non-compliance including communication to pathology administrative and physician leadership; coordinates training and educational opportunities for medical students and residents; ensures prompt resolution of non-compliance and continuous process improvement; prepares and monitors annual GR finances and budget; ensures compliance with mandated safety requirements and regulations; provides grossing activities during periods of inadequate staff coverage; ensures operational compliance based on regulatory and accreditation standards; participates in short and long term strategic planning with regards to Gross Room and TPS operations; participates in special projects as assigned.

Job Requirements

Bachelors degree in Biological Sciences or equivalent education requirements. 5 years of relevant experience required. American Society of Clinical Pathology Certified in Pathologist Assistant.
