CLINICAL HEMATOPATHOLOGIST AT UCSF

The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), Department of Laboratory Medicine is seeking a full-time clinical hematopathologist to serve as a Medical Director of the Hematology Laboratories at UCSF Health.
This position is open at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the Health Sciences Clinical or Clinical X series, which emphasizes a strong commitment to clinical service and teaching. The department also supports opportunities for developing translational or collaborative research projects in Clinical Pathology and Hematopathology.

The successful candidate must:

  • have an MD/DO or MD-PhD degree
  • be board certified or board eligible in Clinical Pathology
  • be board certified or board eligible in Hematopathology
  • hold or be eligible for a California Medical License.

The successful candidate will join a team of clinical hematopathologists who provide medical leadership for UCSF's Hematology Laboratories across several campuses (including Parnassus, Mission Bay, Mount Zion, Stanyan Hospital, Hyde Hospital, Berkeley Outpatient Center, Peninsula Outpatient Center, and others in development). The candidate will be responsible for the medical oversight and daily clinical operations of the hematology laboratories and will provide medical interpretation of peripheral blood smears, body fluid specimens, coagulation and specialty hematology testing through a centralized wet hematology sign-out service. An integral part of the position is working as an educator for medical students, residents, and fellows participating in the wet hematology service.

The successful candidate will also participate in the Hematopathology signout service which performs approximately 4,700 bone marrow biopsy, tissue, and consults interpretations annually, providing exposure to a broad spectrum of hematologic disorders in a highly collaborative academic environment.

Salary and academic title will be commensurate with the candidate's experience and training. The total compensation for this position ranges from $154,700-$398,980, with the potential for additional incentive pay up to $15,000.

Total compensation at the University of California, San Francisco includes your base salary, which is determined by your rank and step at appointment, and negotiated pay for Health Sciences Compensation Plan members. Faculty who are members of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan may also be eligible for additional incentive pay.
