JOB DESCRIPTION

As a Community Development Banking Associate within our Commercial Real Estate team, your initial responsibility will be to provide support and assistance in the underwriting and approval process for acquisition, construction, and/or permanent loans sourced by originations colleagues. You will report to a CDRE  Banker, but will support members of the originations and risk teams. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Gather, analyze, and maintain client, sponsor, and deal information, including system updates and record completeness.
  • Support pitch preparation by helping evaluate deal terms, project budgets, market context, development team, and overall economics.
  • Prepare LOIs/term sheets and related client documentation in partnership with the Credit Originator.
  • Build draft profitability models and partner with the originations team to finalize outputs.
  • Coordinate due diligence collection, organization, and checklist tracking across shared folders and workstreams.
  • Facilitate appraisals and third-party reports by managing information flow and communicating costs/timelines, and next steps.
  • Coordinate internal stakeholder communications (e.g., Credit, CRELA, Legal, and other partners) to support onboarding and closing readiness.
  • Collect and review required documentation and coordinate KYC initiation and data submissions.
  • Track sponsor exposure, pipeline activity, allocations, deal status updates, and production reporting inputs.
  • Monitor deal progress and escalate issues that may impact closing or conversion timelines.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills

  • Experience in community development real estate lending or investing with a focus on affordable housing.

  • Demonstrated underwriting expertise in Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), subordinate/public subsidy layers, and construction/permanent financing structures.

  • BA/BS degree

  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills; capacity to synthesize complex information and assess risk

  • Track record of managing multiple transactions and deadlines with disciplined project management and follow through

  • Ability to interact favorably in person and on the telephone with prospects, clients, consultants, government agency staff, and legal counsel

  • Ability to work as a member of a team and adjust priorities as necessary to achieve team, as well as individual, goals

  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills

  • Commitment to the CRA mission and familiarity with how lending activities support community impact goals.

  • Strong PC skills; proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills

  • Knowledge of standard bank credit policies and loan administration procedures 

  • Active industry engagement through conferences, associations, junior boards

  • Some experience closing complex, multi‑layered capital stacks with tax credits, bonds, and multiple subsidy sources.
