SMX is seeking a driven and talented Microsoft Administrator to join our thriving Cloud Business Unit department and work with some of the best Architects, Engineers, and Operators in the market. This position is on site in Washington, DC five days a week and will require a federal clearance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Install, configure, update, and patch Windows Server (2016, 2019, 2022, etc.) and related components
• Apply DISA STIGs, NIST SP 800-53, FISMA, and agency-specific policies; implement access controls, firewalls, and intrusion detection
• Create/manage accounts, permissions, and authentication protocols
• Design, configure, and maintain multi-node Hyper-V clusters for high availability and disaster recovery.
• Implement and manage failover clustering, live migration, and storage replication strategies.
• Monitor cluster health using tools like System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) and PowerShell automation scripts.
• Plan, execute, and verify backups and disaster recovery procedures
• Use monitoring tools to track health, performance, and availability; resolve incidents within SLA tiers
• Maintain audit artifacts, security documentation, and compliance reports
• Diagnose and resolve hardware/software issues; coordinate with vendors and stakeholders
Required Skills and Experience:
• Hands-on experience with Active Directory, DNS/DHCP, Hyper-V, and IIS
• Knowledge of NIST, FISMA, FedRAMP, DISA STIGs, and vulnerability management
• Experience with VMware, Hyper-V, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure)
• Managing Hyper-V clusters in enterprise environments.
• Windows Server Failover Clustering (WSFC) and Hyper-V networking/storage architecture.
• PowerShell scripting for automation and operational efficiency.
• SAN/NAS storage integration and performance tuning
• Understanding of TCP/IP, subnetting, and network security basics
• Proficiency in PowerShell, Bash, or other scripting languages for automation
• Ability to analyze issues, document solutions, and communicate technical details to non-technical stakeholders
Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor's in computer science, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• Experience: 3-5+ years in system administration; 5+ years for lead/enterprise roles; government/DoD experience preferred

The proposed salary for this position is:
$105,100-$140,000 USD
