What Your Job Will Be LikeThe opportunity exists for an experienced R&D Systems Engineer to lead Integrated Surety Architectures (ISA) integration activities with the high visibility Mobile Guardian Transporter (MGT) system. The MGT program was well into its design by the time ISA was designated as a program of record for MGT. The ISA-MGT integration lead will need to navigate the complexities and challenges of a late program addition, partnering across multiple Centers with management, chief engineers, as well as with our NA-12 and NA-15 customers on issues such as reliability allocations and upstream Safeguards Transporter (SGT) ISA reuse hardware changes, all while keeping the ISA aspects of the MGT program on track. Moreover, qualification testing activities, ISA hardware integration challenges specific to MGT, and Concept of Operations will need to be addressed and coordinated. The lead will be the primary driver for successful ISA integration with the MGT program.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Evaluate all aspects of the MGT system (mechanical, electrical, concept of operations, weight, power, budget, manufacturability, testing, reliability, and qualification) to identify integration impacts and requirements
- Lead and coordinate all ISA integration activities within the MGT program, including design integration, qualification, and acceptance testing
- Develop and maintain ISA-MGT integration schedules, track tasking, and manage deliverables using appropriate tools and methodologies. Work closely with the scheduling business partner to maintain the P6 schedule.
- Serve as the primary ISA interface with management, laboratory chief engineers, the MGT team, weapon system teams, and customer organizations such as NA-12 and NA-15
- Proactively advocate for ISA integration objectives, negotiating deliverables and driving intent beyond minimum requirements
Due to the nature of this work the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

About Our TeamThe Special Projects department was established to focus on the successful deployment of Integrated Surety Architectures (ISA) applications for reentry body and air delivered systems into the transportation safeguards system embodied by the Safeguards Transporter (SGT). The organization serves as the ISA project integration office at Sandia to the NNSA enterprise for over the road (OTR) applications. Currently, there are two major ISA efforts underway at SNL for ALT 940 and the Multi-application Transportation Attachment Device (MTAD) for air delivered systems. As such, the organization interacts extensively with the NW development and stockpile systems capabilities within the laboratory in addition to the transportation safeguards program.
Posting DurationThis posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of three (3) calendar days, including the 'posting date'. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.
