Compliance and Risk Serviceshas an outstanding opportunity for aClaims and Litigation Managerto join their team.

About this Opportunity

TheClaims and Litigation Managerunder the general direction of the Director of ClaimServices, managesthe University9s claims to achieveoptimaloutcomes for the University and its clients, balancing indemnity paid and expense incurred. The Claims and Litigation Manageraccomplisheshis/her mission by regularly sharing pertinentclaimsinformation in a meaningful, constructive way to avoid, reduce, and mitigate risk. The Claims and Litigation Manager will manage a variety of claims, including, but not limitedto:medical professional liability, employment practices liability, auto liability, general liability, and property claims. Additionally, the Claims and Litigation Manager may work in collaboration with the University'sthird partyadministrators and other consultants in the management of claims

Key Responsibilities:

Managing claims and lawsuits(80%)

  • Perform investigations, including in-person and on-site meetings,interviewsand site work

  • Determineappropriate coveragesource for entities and individuals named in claims and lawsuits

  • Negotiatesettlements within delegated authority; obtaining authorityin excess ofdelegation

Work collaboratively on liability claims handled by the University9sthird partyclaims administrator(10%)

  • Provide initial direction to third party administrator for each claim and collaborate on the direction of the claim as it progresses throughoptimalresolution

  • Work with third party administrator(s) on collaboration and meetings with UW stakeholders and indemnitees, investigation techniques, settlement evaluations, negotiations, and UW-specific matters

  • Review and authorize settlement of claims within delegated authority, as appropriate

Reporting and Communicating on Claims and Claim Trends(7%)

  • Communicate with the Attorney General9s Office, Human Resources, Special Assistant Attorneys General, University schools, colleges and divisions, and consulting professionals

  • Making presentations to audiences ofvarious sizeson claim trends and risk management

  • Identifyandrecommend policychanges related to liability lessons and trends

  • Report claims to insurers as needed on claims and fulfilling their communication and timeliness requirements

Fulfills claims-related safety and regulatory responsibilities and special projects as assigned(3%)

  • Provideinformation toand support for individualindemniteesagainst whom a claim or lawsuit has been made/filed

  • Provide training and knowledge transfer to others in Claim Services and to other University audiences asappropriate

  • Prepare reports to appropriate regulatory agencies including but not limited to CMS for Medicare beneficiaries and the State Disciplinary Boards and the National Practitioner Data Bank asrequiredfor medical malpractice claims

Requirements:

  • Bachelor9s degree in business administration or related field, to include five years of experience with claims and litigation management, which may include: medical professional, general, auto, property, employmentpracticesand/or other claims

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences and make presentations to large groups

  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and apply complex rules and regulation toward effective problem solving and claim evaluations

  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations conveying claim trends and information

  • Ability toeffectively and efficiently use computer systems and databases, including detailed data entry

  • Demonstrated customer service skills

  • Superior negotiation skills

  • Strong planning and organization skills and multi-tasking ability

  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and skill development

Desired:

  • Public Sector claims experience

  • Third party claims administration experience

  • Associate in Claims and/or Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation(s)

Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

Pay Range Minimum:

$108,000.00 annual

Pay Range Maximum:

$153,000.00 annual
