Description

Position Overview

We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Civil Engineer to join our Lexington, KY office. This position will provide planning, design and construction services to municipal and county clients for water resource projects including water distribution, storage and treatment, wastewater collection and treatment and stormwater management and related infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Applies engineering principles to develop solutions and evaluate performance and life cycle cost of municipal infrastructure improvements.
  • Assists with project scoping, schedule and budget development.
  • Performs or assists with field data collection including site surveying, documenting existing conditions and taking measurements and photographs.
  • Performs design tasks including hydraulic calculations, quantity computations and equipment specification/selection for water resources infrastructure including, water distribution systems, sanitary sewers, lift stations, pumps, and storm water facilities.
  • Creates drawings and models following the company's design standards and utilizing the designated CAD or modeling software with limited guidance.
  • Creates or assists with the preparation of reports, plans, specifications, cost estimates, supporting documents and permit applications.
  • Provides construction phase services as needed for municipal projects.
  • Interprets construction plans and documents for the contractor and client, interfaces with owners/operators throughout design and construction phases.
  • Performs review of shop drawings, submittals, change orders, punch lists and contractor as-builts.
  • Maintains project documentation, daily reports of construction site activity, project files, RFIs and submittals as needed.
  • Drafts correspondence, reports, participates in project meetings and communicates effectively with all project stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • B.S. degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering is required, and KY PE license is required.
  • 5+ years of experience with the design and construction of municipal water resources infrastructure (water distribution, sanitary sewer and stormwater).
  • Experience with water/wastewater treatment plant process design and/or wet weather (CSO/SSO) evaluation is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to conduct effective client presentations and prepare written reports.
  • Ability to follow through on tasks to completion, research and recommend solutions, collaborate with other team members, and delegate tasks to Jr. staff and technicians.
  • Ability to understand and interpret local building/zoning codes and review plans.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD (Civil3D) is required; WaterCAD, SWMM, GIS is desired.
  • Experience in hydrologic/hydraulic analysis software including HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HEC-GeoRAS, XP-SWMM, Biowin and/or other similar software packages is desired.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel to client and project sites as needed.
