OverviewTRC, Member of WSP, is seeking a mid-level Civil Engineer with a background in environmental consulting and/or site development with 4 to 9 years of experience to join our Engineering, Construction & Remediation (ECR) team in Chicago, Illinois.
The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual looking for career growth and will provide leadership and support for new and existing renewables or general site development projects in Illinois and across the Midwest. Responsibilities• Prepare detailed design sheets showing site grading and drainage plans, site layout, and other civil engineering components related to renewables (including solar, BESS, and wind) and site development.
• Prepare technical specifications for general earthwork, drainage and ponds, and other site civil plans related to energy developments with a focus on renewables (solar, BESS, and wind) and/or data center design.
• Assist with engineering review of stormwater drainage, roads, and earthwork or plans and specifications prepared by others.
• Prepare technical specifications and other reports related to civil site development and construction.
• Respond to stakeholder or public agency questions on plans and specifications.
• Prepare responses to RFI's on site civil drawings and specifications.
• Prepare or review cost estimates related to renewables or general site development.
• Prepare or review technical documents to a range of audiences including agencies, jurisdictional authorities, landowners, or the general public. Present discussion in meetings as applicable to the project.
• Perform or review basic engineering calculations related to the preparation of Plans, Permit Applications for soil, air, and/or water.
• Deliver projects effectively to mutual benefit of TRC and the client with a focus on maintaining budgets and schedules, managing change, and ownership of project Health and Safety and Quality.
• Complete assigned tasks on time and on budget.
• Management and Oversight of subcontractors including surveyors, landscapers, or structural or electrical subcontractors related to site civil developments.
• Other engineering duties and special projects as assigned, including stamping documents following review.
Qualifications• Demonstrates excellence and efficiency in writing, communication, data analysis, professional judgment, and knowledge of civil engineering principles and design.
• General knowledge of site development permitting processes, preferably with renewables in Illinois.
• Strong sense of responsibility and work ethic, with a desire for career growth.
• Strong quality assurance/quality control skills and detail-oriented to perform technical, style, and consistency reviews.
• Ability to manage time and multiple project assignments in both a team setting and individually.
• Conversant with Microsoft Office applications and general design software including CAD (AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred), Bluebeam, and HydroCAD.
• Ability to work with in a project team environment.
• Availability for up to 10% travel to sites within Illinois and other Midwest states if site visits are required.
• EIT licensure and working towards an Illinois PE within 6 months of hire; or already have PE license (Illinois not required but preferred).
• Ability to communicate and work with both internal and external clients.
Required Background• Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, or geotechnical engineering, with a demonstrated background in civil and environmental engineering principles.
• 4 to 9 years of previous civil engineering experience with a consulting firm.
• A valid Driver's License and transportation options for work in office and field.
Other experience, qualifications or responsibilities (not required, but a plus):• Familiarity with renewable energy (primarily wind or solar) projects including permitting, site design, decommissioning plans, etc.
• Familiarity or experience with electrical, structural, or landscaping engineering principles for energy development sites.
• Familiarity or experience with civil or environmental work for DOTs or Class I rail clients.
• Experience with Illinois environmental or stormwater regulations.
• Previous Task or Project Management experience.
• OSHA 10-hr, 30-hr, or 40-hr construction certifications.

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.
Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
Salary RangeUSD $100,152.00 - USD $125,008.00 /Yr.
