Stantec's Albany Transportation group is seeking a civil engineer ready to apply highway and urban street design experience to meaningful projects that improve how people move across New York State. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to complete streets, expressways, bridge-related roadway work, and multimodal improvements that make communities safer, more connected, and more resilient.

Your Opportunity

Stantec's Albany Transportation group has an immediate need for a transportation-focused Civil Engineer with a minimum of 5 years of experience in highway and urban street design. We are looking for a talented, team-focused, and creative individual with a positive attitude and strong Bentley Open Roads Designer skills who is ready to contribute to complex roadway assignments, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and continue developing toward greater project leadership. You will work on a variety of project types including complete streets, expressways, and bridge projects locally, throughout New York State, and beyond.

You will join an energetic team of engineers and planners who are passionate about Reconnecting Communities with a network of multimodal facilities. Get the chance to work on signature projects like the I-81 Viaduct Project and be a part of a team that works on award winning projects, including the Albany Skyway project. We are also residents who take advantage of the many treasures the city has to offer, whether visiting the State Capitol, attending an event at the Palace Theater, or simply taking a walk along the Empire State Trail in the Corning Preserve/Riverfront Park. Albany has been home to Stantec for nearly 70 years (founded in 1955) and during this time we have successfully completed countless local, state, and national projects. This is a hybrid position in our Albany New York office. Our Albany office is located downtown with easy access to the New York State Capitol, MVP Arena, and the Rensselaer Rail Station.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Design complete streets, expressways, and multiuse facilities for pedestrians and bicyclists in accordance with AASHTO, NACTO, MUTCD, and NYSDOT specifications.
  • Develop design plans and calculations, technical specifications, and construction cost estimates.
  • Assist in preparing engineering reports and technical studies.
  • Collaborate with team members, other disciplines and offices, and specialty subconsultants.
  • Perform field investigations and construction phase services support.
  • Interact with and present project designs to clients, agencies, and the public.
  • Work alongside experienced practitioners to expand your knowledge.
  • Provide guidance to influence and mentor team members.


Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Familiarity with AASHTO, NYSDOT and NYSTA design standards.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MicroStation, Inroads , OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office Programs such as Excel, Word & PowerPoint.
  • Experience working with NYSDOT CAD Standards.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with team members.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in both office and virtual environments.
  • Pro-active attitude, attention to detail, punctual, and organized.
  • Excellent time-management skills.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from accredited university.
  • EIT required and the ability to get a NY PE.
  • Minimum of 5 years' relevant experience in complete streets and/or highway design. Position will primarily work in an office or virtual setting; may require some field work.
