Job DescriptionStantec is seeking a Project Engineer to support electric transmission, substation, battery energy storage, renewable energy infrastructure projects throughout the Northeast. As part of our Environmental Services team, you will contribute to civil/site design, stormwater management, permitting, and regulatory compliance for major infrastructure projects. A key focus of this role is supporting New York Article VIII electric transmission permitting, including preparation of engineering plans, technical analyses, and permitting exhibits required for regulatory filings.
Your Key Responsibilities - Develop engineering plans and exhibits supporting New York Article VIII transmission permitting, including site plans, grading plans, access road plans, stormwater management plans, and plan and profile drawings.
- Serve as a Project Civil Engineer for workstreams supporting electric transmission, substation, battery energy storage, renewable energy, and utility infrastructure projects throughout the Northeast.
- Support the planning, design, and delivery of civil engineering components, including site grading, stormwater management, drainage, erosion and sediment control, and access road design.
- Prepare and coordinate engineering calculations, technical reports, construction drawings, and permit-ready design packages.
- Coordinate with environmental, permitting, survey, GIS, and engineering teams to support integrated project delivery and regulatory filings.
- Support project siting studies, constructability reviews, permitting strategies, agency coordination, and regulatory compliance activities.
- Assist with project management responsibilities, including budgeting, scheduling, quality reviews, and client communications.
- Provide technical guidance to junior staff and contribute to a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
- Support proposal development, client service, and business development initiatives.

QualificationsYour Core Capabilities and Credentials - Strong technical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience in civil/site design, stormwater management, and utility infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of engineering plan preparation, technical reporting, and regulatory permitting processes.
- Familiarity with electric transmission siting, environmental permitting, and utility infrastructure development.
- Experience preparing engineering drawings and exhibits for permitting applications.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and related engineering design software.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and collaborate with clients, regulators, and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications- 3+ years of experience supporting electric transmission, utility infrastructure, or power sector projects.
- Experience supporting New York Article VIII applications for major electric transmission facilities preferred.
- Experience preparing site plans, grading plans, stormwater management plans, access road designs, and plan and profile drawings.
- Experience supporting utility permitting, regulatory review, and agency coordination efforts.
- Familiarity with New York utility regulations, Article VIII requirements, and environmental permitting processes.
- Experience supporting high-voltage transmission projects (69 kV+) preferred.
Education and Experience- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a related engineering discipline required.
- Minimum of 4 to 8 years of progressive experience in civil engineering, utility infrastructure, environmental permitting, or power sector project development.
- New York Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred; Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification with ability to obtain a P.E. license is acceptable.
- Additional P.E. licensure in Northeast states (MA, CT, NJ, PA, VT, NH, ME, or RI) is a plus
