The Tucson Water Department is hiring for multiple Civil Engineer positions.

New Area Development: This position functions in a fast-paced environment ensuring developer financed projects are reviewed and approved to meet City policies and Tucson Water’s design standards.  This position will require an understanding of hydraulic modeling, working knowledge of construction methods for water systems, and an ability to work closely with stakeholders in the development community.

Planning and Engineering, General:  This position will be responsible for the implementation of water related infrastructure projects in Tucson Water’s capital improvement program.  This may include performing detailed design, project management and construction management.

Planning and Engineering, Treatment Focus: This position reviews and manages projects related to water treatment facilities.

Position Specific Summary

The Civil Engineer supports Tucson Water's mission by maintaining engineering activities associated with the City's infrastructure, ensuring compliance with environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements.

This position works on projects spanning water treatment, transmission, and distribution infrastructure that serve the Tucson community, including both detailed design and project management. Work is performed under the supervision of a Tucson Water Engineering Manager. This position will require strong written and verbal communication skills, will lead project teams, and may supervise other technical staff.

General Duties:

  • Project management of water related infrastructure projects from design through construction.

  • Coordinate directly with developers, other municipalities, and agencies on Tucson Water infrastructure related projects

  • Determines project scopes, budgets and timelines.

  • Develops contract documents, specifications, estimates costs, evaluates bids, and negotiates changes. Work directly with consultants and contractors.

  • Inspects project sites during construction to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications.

  • Develops, recommends and implements engineering solutions.

  • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree

Work Experience:
Two (2) years of directly related experience

License:
Professional Engineer (PE) License - Arizona Board of Technical Registration (ABTR)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

Two years or more engineering experience in water system design for potable/reclaimed transmission and distribution water mains.

Two years or more experience in the hydraulic modeling of water distribution systems.

One year or more experience in water distribution system construction.

Two years or more supervisory experience.
