Boston Government Services (BGS) is seeking a Civil Engineer to support our clients at the Y12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

Where You'll Work:

The Y12 National Security Complex located in Oak Ridge, TN, plays a vital role in the U.S. Department of Energy's Nuclear Security Enterprise. Y-12 provides manufacturing, technical, and scientific expertise to produce components, subassemblies, and quality evaluations to sustain a U.S. nuclear deterrent; reduce the threat from weapons of mass destruction; supply nuclear material to the Naval Reactors Program; and provide solutions to other emerging national security challenges. Y-12 has developed state-of-the-art capabilities in three core areas: nuclear technology and materials, security and consequence management, and manufacturing and technical services. Y-12 lends its specialized expertise to other federal agencies, such as the U.S. Departments of Defense and Homeland Security, state and local governments, and private-sector companies. Projects at Y-12 include providing protective equipment to soldiers in combat, training National Guard units for radiological emergencies, and creating machining platforms that improve production and efficiency.

About the Role:

A civil design engineer will be responsible for developing high quality detailed design packages, providing engineering procurement and field technical support to implement those designs, and providing expertise for troubleshooting and technical assessments of plant facilities.

Responsibilities:
  • Must effectively and cooperatively work as a team member of an integrated project team, or as a technical lead for a multi-discipline task and will routinely provide input to system engineers and other plant customers.
  • Will routinely perform walk downs in the existing plant facilities in order to generate design documents and provide field support to craft personnel.
  • This position will require technical expertise and wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the field of Civil Engineering.
  • Will provide self-performed technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems through the application of established engineering practices, codes and standards.
  • Will include but not be limited to storm and storm drain designs and modifications, road design, soil evaluation, and oversight of outside engineering firms.
  • Must be familiar with consensus design codes.
  • CAD drafting experience is not required but preferred.


Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited school with a minimum of 5 years' experience.
  • Requires strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interface effectively with various clients, production and support organizations, management, and hourly wage employees.
  • Must be willing to work in a production environment.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Successful drug screening.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a security or clearance badge.
  • Requires a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status.


Location/Work Arrangement:
  • This position is a fully onsite position at the Y12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
  • Typical work schedule will be Mon.-Thur. 10-hour days (4/10 schedule).
