Overview
The Quality Control Manager for asphalt projects oversees all quality assurance and control activities associated with asphalt production, placement, and performance. This role ensures materials, mixes, testing procedures, and paving operations meet project specifications, DOT standards, and company expectations. The manager works closely with paving crews, plant personnel, inspectors, and project management to maintain consistent quality throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
• Develop and manage project specific quality control plans for asphalt production and paving operations
• Oversee sampling and testing of asphalt mixes, aggregates, binder, densities, temperatures, and smoothness
• Monitor asphalt plant operations for compliance with mix designs, production settings, moisture content, and stockpile management
• Conduct field inspections during paving to evaluate laydown procedures, compaction methods, and workmanship
• Review and verify mix designs, material certifications, QC/QA reports, and supplier documentation
• Coordinate with third party labs to schedule required testing such as Marshall, Superpave, gradation, and binder tests
• Identify non conforming materials or work, communicate findings, and ensure corrective actions are implemented
• Maintain detailed documentation including test results, inspection logs, production records, and daily reports
• Provide training to crews on quality standards, proper paving practices, compaction methods, and testing procedures
• Communicate regularly with project managers, engineers, superintendents, and clients regarding quality issues and progress
• Participate in pre paving meetings, inspections, and project closeout reviews
• Ensure all work complies with DOT, municipal, and project specific asphalt specifications

Qualifications
• Five or more years of experience in asphalt quality control, asphalt plant operations, or paving inspection
• Strong understanding of asphalt materials, mix designs, compaction requirements, and paving best practices
• Experience with DOT specifications, asphalt QC/QA programs, and associated testing procedures
• Certifications such as Asphalt Level I and II, Troxler nuclear gauge, Superpave technician, or equivalent preferred
• Ability to interpret plans, specifications, mix designs, and technical reports
• Strong communication, leadership, and problem solving skills
• High attention to detail with the ability to identify deficiencies and recommend solutions
• Proficient with electronic reporting systems, documentation tools, and basic computer skills
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel between plants and project sites

Work Environment
• Field and plant based role with exposure to outdoor conditions, heat, heavy equipment, and active construction sites
• Requires walking, standing, bending, lifting, and extended periods on job sites and around production equipment
• Work hours may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, or extended shifts depending on paving schedules
