We are seeking a visionary Chief of Psychiatry to serve as the senior medical leader for both our Inpatient Psychiatric Facility (Adult/Child/Adolescent IPF) and Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinic. This executive position combines administrative oversight, clinical governance, and direct patient care. In this role, you will ensure high-quality, trauma-informed psychiatric care, maintain regulatory compliance, and drive strategic growth across our behavioral health continuum.
Key Responsibilities- Administrative & Strategic Leadership: Provide executive oversight across inpatient and outpatient behavioral health services. Lead recruitment, retention, credentialing, and performance evaluations for medical staff, including attending psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. Develop and manage operational budgets, staffing models, and call schedules, while participating in executive committees to drive program expansion.
- Clinical Operations & Quality: Monitor clinical outcomes, length of stay (LOS), readmission rates, and outpatient access metrics. Oversee Utilization Review (UR), Quality Improvement (QI), and peer review processes. Implement evidence-based treatment protocols for inpatient crisis stabilization and outpatient care while upholding safety standards and NYS Mental Hygiene Law Article 9 protocols.
- Regulatory Compliance & Policy: Serve as the primary psychiatric leader during accreditation surveys with OMH, CMS, and Det Norske Veritas (DNV). Ensure strict compliance with NYS OMH Part 584 (Inpatient) and Part 599 (Outpatient) regulations, NYS Justice Center reporting requirements, and internal policy development.
- Direct Clinical Care: Conduct psychiatric evaluations, consultations, and medication management across inpatient units, outpatient clinics, and the Emergency Department. Provide expert clinical consultation on complex or high-risk cases.
- Schedule & Work Model: On-site position with emergency call responsibilities as defined by facility needs. Hybrid arrangements for non-clinical administrative time are subject to facility approval.
Qualifications- Education & Licensure: MD or DO from an accredited medical school with completion of an ACGME-accredited Psychiatry Residency program. Active, unencumbered New York State medical license.
- Certifications: Board Certification in General Psychiatry by the ABPN. Valid DEA license with NYS prescriptive authority.
- Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of post-residency clinical experience spanning both inpatient and outpatient psychiatric settings. At least 3+ years in a progressive clinical leadership role (e.g., Unit Chief, Medical Director).
- Regulatory Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of NYS Mental Hygiene Law, OMH regulations, and CMS IPF Quality Reporting (IPFQR) requirements.
- Preferred: Subspecialty board certification (e.g., Child & Adolescent, Addiction, or Geriatric Psychiatry) and experience with NYS Medicaid Managed Care and Value-Based Payment (VBP) models.
