Full Job Description
Responsibilities
Dartmouth Health's Department of Radiology is seeking a Chief of Cardiothoracic Imaging to join our dynamic Department in the beautiful Upper Valleyregion of New Hampshire and Vermont. Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, the system's central clinical hub and Academic Medical Center, is located immediately adjacent to bustling college town of Hanover, NH. Hanover is home to the world-renowned Dartmouth College and Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth.

We are seeking a skilled, visionary, and impactful radiologist leader to define and execute a vision for a world class cardiothoracic imaging section. Responsibilities for the role include growing an efficient, productive, cutting-edge clinical service; nurturing a robust and growing educational program for students, residents, and fellows; and spearheading a scholarly portfolio for the section including clinical, health care delivery, and/or basic science research. The Chief of Cardiothoracic Imaging will have broad impact, with leadership responsibilities across Dartmouth Health and at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. Faculty have access to the full academic and cultural resources of the health system, the College, and the School.

Position Summary

The Chief of Cardiothoracic Imaging will be a nationally known leader in the field of cardiothoracic imaging, one capable of vision setting and execution. She or he will have a personal reputation for excellence in clinical care, teaching, mentoring, and scholarship. The Chief of Cardiothoracic Imaging will execute on the three essential missions of this academic, mission-driven department:

Clinical Excellence:

Clinically, the Chief will ensure the Cardiothoracic Imaging Service Line is productive, cutting-edge, and collaborative. With growth across Dartmouth Health, there will be a net expansion of services and imaging volumes over the next many years, allowing the Chief to mold the service line to be a national leader. The Cardiothoracic Imaging section currently provides the full gamut of Cardiothoracic imaging techniques. The Chief will help develop new services and hone those already in existence, with an eye towards continuous improvement and patient satisfaction. The Chief will collaborate with executive leadership, department chairs, and division leads to develop new services, innovate, and collaborate. A superb working relationship with pulmonology, cardiology, thoracic surgery, pathology, primary care, and other services is expected.

Educational Excellence

In the education realm, the Chief will define goals for developing a world class educational environment. The department aims to have robust programs for students from the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, including shadowing programs and junior and senior student rotations. The Dartmouth Department of Radiology is a national leader in teaching radiology to medical students, with numerous nationally and internationally recognized educators and extensive dissemination of scholarly work pertaining educational techniques and novel programs.

Dartmouth Radiology hosts multiple outstanding residencies, including in Diagnostic Radiology and an integrated DR/IR program, and multiple fellowships.

Supporting Scholarship

In the scholarship realm, the opportunities for the Cardiothoracic imaging abound. As a national leader in serving populations across a wide geographic area, there are ample opportunities to publish and speak on the innovative programs and cutting-edge imaging occurring at Dartmouth Health. In particular, the application of advanced imaging techniques and the creation of innovative outreach efforts offer fertile ground for scholarly work. Collaboration with other productive researchers inside and outside the department is an immense opportunity. The Chief is expected to personally participate in the section's scholarly efforts, while also developing and mentoring her or his team in their scholarly endeavors. Enlisting students, residents, and fellows in academic endeavors is highly encouraged.

All faculty are encouraged to participate in national societies and organizations, with an eye towards developing a regional and/or national reputation of clinical excellence.

Reporting Structure

The Chief will report directly to Chair of Radiology (who also serves as the Vice President of the Radiology Service Line for Dartmouth Health). Cardiothoracic imagers will in turn report to the chief.

Overall, the Chief should have the ability to engage and inspire others, including physician colleagues, department staff, and others throughout the institution. The Department values patient-centered care and a highly collaborative, respectful, caring, and engaging work environment. There is a strong working relationship with other Departments and the section participates in multidisciplinary meetings.

The Department and Dartmouth Health

The selected candidate will join Dartmouth Health's 60 radiologists. We are an internationally known Department with a deep history in the field, beginning with acquiring the first clinically x-ray in the United States in 1896. Since then, we have continued an upward trajectory growing in breadth and depth and expanding our services across New England.
