Job Summary

The Chief Finance and Internal Operations Officer (CFIO) plays a pivotal role in providing strategic leadership for the organization's financial health, operational excellence, human resources, and technology infrastructure. This executive position serving as a member of the Senior Leadership Team reporting to the CEO. The role is responsible for modernizing and strengthening financial and operational systems, ensuring compliance and risk management, overseeing organizational planning and performance, and leading teams across Finance, HR, IT, and Internal Operations to support the organization's mission and long-term sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Financial Leadership & Financial Management: Provide executive oversight of all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, grant and contract accounting, payroll oversight, financial reporting, audit coordination, investment management, and financial analysis. Partner with the CEO and Senior Leadership Team to support organizational strategy, growth, and financial sustainability.

Supervise finance team members including Senior Accountant, Finance and Payroll Accountant (direct supervisor: Sr. Accountant), Director of Finance and Development, and Finance and Procurement Manager.

Human Resources Leadership: Oversee the organization's HR function, including HR policies and procedures, employee relations, benefits administration, compensation practices, compliance with employment laws, talent acquisition, performance management systems, training and professional development, and organizational culture initiatives. Ensure HR practices support organizational objectives and a positive employee experience.

Supervise HR team members including HR Associate contractor.

Operations & Information Technology Oversight: Provide oversight of internal operations and technology functions, including business process improvement, organizational compliance, vendor management, facilities and administrative operations, cybersecurity awareness, technology planning, systems administration, and strategic IT investments. Ensure operational and technology infrastructure effectively supports organizational needs and future growth.

Supervise IT staff including Director of Technology and Web Developer (direct supervisor: Dir. Of Tech).

Risk Management, Compliance & Team Leadership: Oversee organizational risk management, insurance programs, compliance with federal and state grant requirements, internal controls, and organizational policies. Lead and develop Finance, HR, Operations, and IT staff; foster cross-functional collaboration; maintain open communication across all levels of the organization; and support continuous improvement efforts.

Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Management or related fieldrequired.
  • Advanced degreeor relevant professional credentials arepreferred.

Experience:
  • Seven to ten years of progressively responsible leadership experience in nonprofit finance and operations.
  • Experience managing complex funding sources, including federal and state grants, philanthropic funding, and fee-for-service contracts.
  • Experience overseeing organizational budgets and leading multi-functional teams.
