The role - what you'll doWe are seeking a motivated and skilled mid-level engineer to join Barr's air permitting and compliance team. The person in this role will undertake diverse, fast-paced, challenging work focused on providing environmental support to oil and gas clients, in addition to others in the mining, manufacturing, and power industries.
A successful candidate for this position will have strong problem-solving and communication skills and the drive to combine their technical background and regulatory knowledge to meet client needs. They are also intrinsically motivated, with an emphasis on client service, and are interested in building their career in environmental consulting.
In this position, you will develop solutions that allow clients to maintain optimal flexibility and profitability while complying with regulatory requirements related to air, as well as water and waste. The technical expertise you gathered from your degree and previous experience will be used to understand our clients' processes in relation to the applicable environmental permits, rules, and regulations.
Your impact - key responsibilities - Lead air permitting and compliance strategy development
- Reading and interpreting regulations
- Reviewing operational functions and activities to verify compliance
- Calculating emissions
- Writing regulatory and technical analysis memos
- Preparing routine compliance submittals
- Developing compliance tools to assist clients
- Compiling permit applications
- On-site client support opportunities (may require out-of-town travel)
About the opportunity- Hybrid: a hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Colorado, New Mexico, North Dakota, and Utah offices.
- Travel expectation: up to 10% of your time; may vary based on project and client needs.
- Work environment: some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Safety training will be provided.
About you - required core competencies - Education: bachelor's degree in chemical or environmental engineering or a related engineering degree
- Years of experience: 5 years post-college professional experience in industry, environmental agency, or environmental consulting
- Relevant skills:
- Experience working with regulations and environmental permitting
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, regulators, and clients
- Strong technical and problem-solving skills, including attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Strong computer skills, including the use of spreadsheets and a high level of proficiency working in data systems and analyzing large sets of data
- Regulatory knowledge: familiarity with federal and state air-quality regulatory requirements and permitting processes for Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, and/or Texas
- Travel: willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedules to meet project needs
- Driver's license: possession of a current, valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future
Helpful additional experience (not required)- Experience working in environmental consulting
CompensationAnticipated range of $90,000-$125,000 annually. Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. This position is classified exempt (salaried) under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
