Full Job Description
The College of Graduate Studies (CGS) at Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona and Downers Grove, Illinois invites applications for a stipend position as Chair of the Department of Pharmacology in Glendale, Arizona, available January 2027. The Chair is expected to provide effective representation and management of the department at both the college and university levels. The successful candidate will participate in one or more team-taught courses for Osteopathic Medical, Dental, Optometry, Biomedical Sciences, Podiatric Medicine, Precision Medicine, Public Health, Health Sciences, Pharmacy, and Veterinary students. The Chair will provide leadership and vision for the department while participating with the Dean(s) or Associate Dean(s) in policymaking, expansion, and governance of the colleges and programs supported by the College of Graduate Studies and the academic department that they manage. Lastly, the Chair will oversee workload assignment, faculty recruitment, performance evaluation, retention, and professional development of faculty. They will also provide guidance for and monitor academic, curricular participation, scholarly, and service activities of the department.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in a pharmacology-related field or medicine and possess a strong academic record; the successful candidate must hold the rank of Associate Professor or higher at the time of hire. A minimum of five years of experience in academia is required. The successful applicant should have excellent oral and written communication skills and a commitment to the education of future health-care professionals. Candidates must have demonstrated or have the potential to lead and administer an academic department. This includes interacting effectively with students, faculty members, and administrators; collaborating with others in a multidisciplinary teaching and research environment; engaging in the local and national communities and promoting the engagement of others; showing commitment to diversity in the actions and plans of the Department.
