Job Description

  • Under general supervision, performs basic to high complexity inspections of transportation infrastructure to evaluate if appropriate materials and construction processes are used and that construction conforms to plans, specifications, and any special provisions.
  • Uses industry standard gauges and performs industry standard calculations to perform inspection.
  • Must be able to perform the most highly complex inspection for 2 of the 5 inspection categories: 1) Roadway; 2) Bridges; 3) Drainage; 4) Erosion Control; 5) Maintenance & Traffic.
  • Reviews inspection related documentation including drawings, specifications, plans, etc.
  • as necessary to prepare for the inspection.
  • Understands the part of the design that will be inspected.
  • Documents and communicates the results of the inspection to the project supervisor.
  • After review of drawings, performs planning of basic to high complexity inspection projects.
  • Planning may include developing inspection assignments for other inspectors assigned to the same inspection project.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Conducts basic to moderate complexity field measurements to establish quantities for pay item documentation as well as other contract related documentation.

Skills & Abilities

Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in English. Intermediate knowledge of arithmetic. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.). Ability to adapt to new technologies and quickly learn new computer, smartphone or related applications and programs. Advanced knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction. Ability to read, understand, interpret and explain construction plans and drawings, contract provisions, and specifications.
Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent. Certifications from a State Highway Agency or National Entity such as ACI (American Concrete Institute) or NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies) in earthwork, asphalt, and concrete if required by the client or jurisdiction in which they will be working. Must possess a valid driver's license. 6 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Additional Pay Range Information

This pay range is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels for the geographic location assigned to the position. In addition to geographic location, a candidate's salary is determined by several other factors including, but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, relevant work experience, skills, required certifications, and education/training.

All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
