Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center invites applications for a faculty position as Associate Director for Community Outreach and Engagement (AD, COE) and Director of a recently launched Geoffrey Canada Center for Translational Research in Cancer Disparities. This is an exciting opportunity to lead community engagement and cancer disparities research efforts at one of the world's premier cancer centers.
The AD, COE oversees community outreach and engagement efforts throughout our cancer center catchment area, serving as the vital bridge between MSK and the many communities we serve. Working closely with the Cancer Center Director, this position will organize and facilitate our Community Advisory Board, ensuring meaningful bidirectional communication between the cancer center leadership and community stakeholders. As Director of the Canada Center, the leader will have resources to implement and oversee research initiatives in understanding and addressing cancer disparities within the catchment area.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement comprehensive community outreach and bidirectional engagement strategies across the catchment area
Serve as Director of the Geoffrey Canada Center, established to promote health justice and equity in cancer prevention and control through innovative community-engaged translational research
Organize and facilitate the MSK Community Advisory Board, creating opportunities for community members to learn about our work and provide guidance on community-relevant research directions
Build and maintain partnerships with community organizations, health centers, and other stakeholders
Serve in key leadership role on MSK's Cancer Center Support Grant, ensuring COE activities align with NCI and CCSG priorities and expectations
Collaborate with cancer center leadership to integrate community perspectives into research priorities and program development
Translate complex scientific information for community audiences
Represent MSK at community events and forums
Qualifications
Required:
Doctoral degree (e.g., MD, DrPH, PhD, or related field) in public health, health services research, population science, social sciences, healthcare administration, or a related field
Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in community engagement, cancer control, community health, community-engaged research, or related areas
Demonstrated success building partnerships with diverse community organizations
Experience facilitating advisory boards or similar groups
Strong understanding of health and cancer disparities and social determinants of health
Experience integrating community engagement with research initiatives and clinical trial infrastructure
Proven ability to lead complex interdisciplinary initiatives across academic, clinical, and community environments
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred:
Experience in cancer-related community programs
Experience with NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers
Knowledge of community-based participatory research
Grant writing and program evaluation experience
Language skills relevant to our catchment area populations
