Are you an experienced Commissioning Electrician who specializes in Medium Voltage work?

What does Medium Voltage experience look like?

The ideal candidate has extensive experience as a substation technician, with a track record of:

  • Operating and maintaining medium and high voltage systems
  • Commissioning, Testing, and Safe Energization of new Medium Voltage/ High Voltage Electrical Systems
  • Conducting DOBLE DGA sampling and HIPOT testing
  • Executing maintenance and tests on high voltage systems


What will your day-to-day look like?

In addition to what's listed above, you will be tasked with supporting their commissioning team during electrical and functional testing, start-ups, and troubleshooting of various equipment. These may include switchgear, motor contactors, disconnect switches, circuit breakers, panel boards, transformers, surge protection devices, battery banks, UPS systems, power cables, protective relays, and meters.

  • Execute emergency troubleshooting and repair of low, medium, and high voltage electrical power distribution systems
  • Perform complex service upgrades, reconditioning, retrofits, etc., for our low-voltage power distribution products and systems
  • Provide expert advice, training, and technical assistance to our support staff and newly recruited employees
  • Use electrical test sets to perform tests like AC and DC High Potential testing, Transformer Turns Ratio testing, Power Factor testing, primary current injection, resistance testing, thermal scans on medium and low voltage electrical systems
  • Ensure safe work practices in low, medium, and high voltage substations while adhering to Arc Flash and Shock Hazards safety standards
  • Promote a culture of confidentiality and safety


Prerequisites for this role:

  • Electrical Technology Diploma, Journeyman Electrician, NCCER certification (or equivalent), or NETA certification
  • NETA experience
  • Possession of Electrical Contractor licenses is a bonus
  • Comprehensive understanding of control and protection systems
  • Ability to interpret drawings and electrical studies
  • Experience in electrical engineering, design, and construction processes
  • Proficiency in Hexagon Smart Completions
  • Ability to prepare detailed technical reports
  • Proficiency in MS Office software
  • 10+ years of commissioning / medium voltage experience
  • Valid driver's license and clean driver's abstract
  • Successfully pass a drug and alcohol test
  • First Aid/CPR, OSHA 10, GHS, Defensive Driving, H2S Awareness
  • Eligible to work in Canada
  • Availability to travel across the Canada as required
  • Three recent references related to commissioning or turnaround work on live facilities
