ABOUT THE TEAM

Anduril Maritime delivers platforms, systems, and integrated effects in the maritime domain. Our vehicles (sub-surface and surface) are the cornerstone of these capabilities, and we continually strive to push the boundaries of the possible in terms of endurance, autonomy and mission capability. The Maritime team develops and maintains core products and payloads, and adapts and applies those products to serve a wide variety of defense, IC and commercial customers in US and international markets.

ABOUT THE JOB

The Design Engineer role will be based out of Costa Mesa, CA. As design engineer, you will be responsible for developing CAD models for parts, equipment and tooling designs and layouts to support manufacturing processes, the production system, movement simulations and digital twins of the production environment. You will work closely with manufacturing engineering, suppliers, and production teams to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability and comply with applicable quality standards including Subsafe, AS9100, and Mil-std specifications.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Develop comprehensive 3D models using CAD software, incorporating detailed Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), Product Manufacturing Information (PMI), material specifications, finish requirements, and part information.
  • Apply PMI/Model-Based Definition (MBD) to 3D models to support downstream manufacturing and inspection processes.
  • Generate conceptual design layouts and detailed production drawings using GD&T and performing tolerance stackup analysis.
  • Create and manage Engineering Bills of Materials (EBOMs), ensuring proper structure and alignment with Manufacturing Bills of Materials (MBOMs).
  • Establish and configure Teamcenter/CAD Bill of Materials (BOMs) and maintain PLM data integrity.
  • Perform PMI validation and model checking to ensure compliance with relevant industry and military standards such as Subsafe, AS9100, and Mil-std specifications.
  • Interface with vendors and in-house fabrication/assembly teams during design and prototype hardware builds, incorporating producibility lessons learned through design changes and drawing revisions.
  • Generate essential design documentation, including assembly models & drawings, detailed part models & drawings, and manufacturing build-to packages.
  • Conduct drawing package quality reviews and incorporate engineering review feedback and red-line markups.
  • Support configuration management at the system or subsystem level.
  • Work hands-on in a manufacturing environment, collaborating with operations and manufacturing engineering to understand and optimize production systems.
  • Design composite structures, machined components, mechanisms, fluid systems, and electromechanical assemblies.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5+ years of experience with detailed mechanical systems from cradle to grave, including structures, mechanisms, fluid systems, and electromechanical systems.
  • Experience with 3D CAD software (e.g. Siemens NX, SolidWorks, CATIA, etc.).
  • Solid understanding and application of GD&T in production drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment where products are manufactured.
  • Ability to manage and create large assembly models and 2D drawings.
  • Ability to create workflow releases through Teamcenter Active Workspace.
  • Must be a U.S. Person due to required access to U.S. export controlled information or facilities.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Siemens NX experience highly preferred.
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems, particularly Teamcenter.
  • Experience creating kinematics and motion simulations.
  • Strong hands-on technical skills - both professional and hobby.
  • Experience with PMI/MBD workflows and model-based design practices.
  • Knowledge of Subsafe, AS9100, or Mil-std drawing and design standards.
  • Experience designing for large-scale manufacturing and working with contract manufacturers.
  • Ability to work well in an integrated team including daily interactions with technicians, engineers, and managers.
  • Creative problem solver that can bring multiple disciplines together.
  • Self-motivated with strong multi-tasking, organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Process improvement experience, including justification of return on investment for design or operational changes.
