Salary Range: $130,000k - $170,000k
About the RoleThe Cable and Wire Harness Design Engineering Manager leads a team of engineers and drafters in the design and development of complex cable assemblies and wire harnesses, with a strong focus on harness architecture, detailed interconnect design, routing, breakout configuration, labeling, and build documentation. This role provides technical support for existing products throughout their lifecycle and partners with product management, operations, and sales to ensure design accuracy, manufacturability, and successful program execution.
What You'll DoTeam Leadership & People Management
- Directly manage 5-10 design engineers and drafters, including hiring, performance management, career development, and workload/resource planning across concurrent programs
- Establish design standards, review cadences, and mentoring structures to develop engineers across experience levels
- Partner with HR on compensation planning, promotion cases, and succession planning for the design team
Technical & Program Execution
- Direct the design and development of cable/wire harness assemblies and fiber optic interconnect systems, ensuring compliance with MIL-DTL, MIL-PRF, and customer-specific specifications
- Own engineering deliverables against program schedules, including drawings, GD&T packages, BOMs, ICDs, and qualification test plans
- Review and approve engineering designs, drawing packages, and change orders (ECOs/ECNs) originating from the team
- Lead root-cause investigations and corrective actions for design-related quality escapes
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Serve as the engineering interface to Program Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Sales on active and proposed programs
- Support new business proposals with technical scoping, feasibility assessment, and rough-order-of-magnitude engineering estimates
- Coordinate with customer engineering teams on interface control, design reviews, and qualification requirements
Process & Continuous Improvement
- Drive standardization of design practices, CAD/PDM workflows (SolidWorks), and drawing templates across the group
- Identify and implement process improvements to reduce design cycle time and first-pass yield issues
- Support internal and customer audits related to engineering design controls
What We're Looking ForRequired Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or related engineering discipline
- Minimum 5 years of engineering leadership experience multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Experience leading new product development from concept through production
- Working knowledge of MIL-DTL and MIL-PRF specifications, GD&T, and mil-spec drawing standards.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and assembly documentation
- Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, or equivalent preferred)
- Strong knowledge of AS9100, PLM systems, configuration management, and engineering change processes
- Excellent leadership, communication, project management, and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent programs and competing priorities in a manufacturing environment.
