Participants will rotate through various investment and non-investment functions as embedded associates with real ownership of projects and direct mentorship from department heads and senior firm leadership.
We are bringing in a small cohort of high-potential individuals who are analytically sharp, intellectually curious, and energized by the challenge of modernizing complex operations in a highly regulated industry. Associates will work on problems with real business consequences: mapping and redesigning manual processes, building data-driven business cases, evaluating and strategically applying AI and automation tools to improve how the firm operates.
Successful associates will have a path to transition into a permanent role aligned with the firm’s evolving needs and the individual’s skills and interests.
Across each rotation, you will take ownership of meaningful, often cross-functional problems that may not have an obvious owner or a clear path forward. Specifically, you will:
Map and diagnose business processes end-to-end to identify bottlenecks, manual hand-offs, redundancies, and opportunities for automation, redesign, or the strategic application of AI
Translate findings into clear recommendations for senior stakeholders to assess opportunities for improvements and technology-enabled solutions
Partner with technology, operations, and business teams to design and pilot solutions, and help drive initiatives from proof of concept through implementation and adoption
Build business fluency across the firm: understand each department’s goals, workflows, controls, and key metrics, and carry those insights forward across rotations
Identify patterns across teams, share insights, and develop reusable frameworks where workflows or solutions can be standardized or scaled firm-wide
For each rotation, deliver at least one meaningful, implemented improvement that the business can maintain and improve — moving from diagnosis through solution design, build, and adoption
Demonstrate sound judgment navigating ambiguity, competing priorities, and sensitive information
Communicate clearly and credibly across both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership
Build an increasingly integrated view of how Dodge & Cox operates — developing an understanding of interrelationships and interdependencies across teams and contributing to a shared body of knowledge about where and how the firm can optimize its processes and operations
Bachelor’s degree with an excellent academic record in AI, Math, Economics, Data or Computer Science, or a similar analytically rigorous background
Demonstrated ability to break down complex, ambiguous problems and develop structured, actionable recommendations
Analytical rigor and comfort working with data to support decision-making — whether through quantitative tools, structured frameworks, or both
Intellectual curiosity, high standard of excellence, and demonstrated passion for improving processing and increasing efficiency
Clear, concise communicator: equally effective engaging technical colleagues and non-technical senior stakeholders
Strong technical fluency in data analysis tools (e.g., Python, SQL, Excel) and comfort applying these skills in a business context
Up to 5 years of professional experience in financial services, technology, management consulting or data analytics, or an undergraduate experience that demonstrates exceptional potential
Working knowledge of cloud software (e.g., Snowflake, Azure) is a plus but not required
Experience with process redesign, automation, or AI/ML tools in applied settings
One-year master’s programs in AI, Data Science, Business Analytics, or related fields are strongly encouraged to apply
