OverviewWe are seeking an experienced first-line risk leader to join our Consumer, Commercial and Shared Services (CCSS) Business Risk Team as a Payment Operations/Treasury Management Business Risk Officer (BRO) with a dedicated focus on Treasury Management, Payment Operations, and Digital Banking support. The ideal candidate will bring deepexpertisein payment products and operational processes, including ACH, Wire Transfer, Check Processing, Lockbox, Merchant Services, Card Services, Digital Payments, Foreign Exchange (FX), and emerging payment platforms. The successful candidate will havedemonstratedexperience assessing operational, fraud, sanctions, compliance, regulatory, and customer risks while ensuring adherence to applicable banking regulations, payment network requirements, and enterprise risk standards.
In this role, you will build and mature front-line governance and control capabilities across Treasury Management, Financial Institutions Group (FIG), Product and Digital Banking, and Payment Operations functions. You willbe responsible forexecuting and sustaining core first-line risk programs, including Issue Management, Incident and Operational Loss Management, Change Risk Management, Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSA), control testing, risk metrics,andcontinuous monitoringoversight. The role also supports fraud risk management activities, operational resiliency initiatives, regulatory examinations, internal audits, and ad hoc risk assessments, ensuringtimelyissue resolution and effective remediation.
Success in this role requires exceptional communication, influencing, and relationship-building skills, as the Business Risk Officer serves as a key liaison between the First Line of Defense, Second Line of Defense (Risk and Compliance), and Third Line of Defense (Audit). The ideal candidate can translate complex regulatory and risk concepts into actionable business guidance, challenge business decisions through a risk-based lens, and partner effectively with leaders across Treasury Management, Payments, Operations, and Digital Banking tomaintaina strong and sustainable control environment.
Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $81,700/yr - $165,100/yr plus bonus. The base salary indicated for this position reflects the compensation range applicable to all levels of the role across the United States. Key Accountabilities
First Line Risk Advisory & Governance
- Provide risk oversight for payment products and operational processes including ACH, Wire Transfer, Check Processing, Lockbox, Merchant Services, Card Services, Digital Payments, and emerging payment platforms.
- Assess payment-related operational, fraud, sanctions, compliance, and customer risks while ensuring adherence to regulatory and network requirements.
- Partner with Treasury Management Product, Sales, Implementation, Client Support, and Operations teams toidentifyand mitigate operational and regulatory risk.
- Partner with Fraud Operations and business leaders toidentifyemerging fraud trends,paymentfraud threats, account takeover risks, and scam-related exposures.
- Influence risk-informed decision-making by balancing businessobjectives, customer outcomes, regulatory expectations, and control effectiveness.
- Identifyemerging risks across Treasury Management, Payment Operations, Financial Institutions Group (FIG), Product and Digital Banking, Merchant Services, Foreign Exchange (FX), and Fraud Operations
- Serve asa member of thePayments Committee,establishingmeeting agendas, facilitating risk discussions, escalating material concerns, and providing effective challenge to ensureappropriate governanceof payment products, operational processes, and associated risks.
Issue & Incident Management
- Lead and oversee Issue Management activities, including identification, documentation, remediation planning, execution tracking, and validation.
- Support Operational Loss and Incident Management, including root cause analysis, impact assessment, and control enhancement.
- Ensuretimelyescalation and communication of issues and incidents toappropriate stakeholders.
Change & Initiative Risk Management
- Provide risk oversight for Change Initiatives, including process changes, product enhancements, and strategic initiatives.
- Participate in change impact assessments toidentifyrisks, control gaps, and mitigation strategies.
- Partner with Technology, Operations, and Business teams to ensure changes are wellcontrolled and sustainable.
Risk Assessments & Controls
- Lead and support Risk and Control SelfAssessments (RCSA), controldesigntesting, and ongoing control effectiveness monitoring.
- Perform ad hoc risk assessments for new activities, vendor relationships, regulatory changes, or emerging risk scenarios.
- Use influential communication to resolve conflicts and guide teams towardriskaligned,customercentricsolutions.
Risk Metrics & Continuous Monitoring
- Develop andmaintainrisk metrics, dashboards, and KRIs to support continuous monitoring.
- Perform monitoring toidentifytrends in payment operations, treasury management services, fraud activity, customer complaints, operational losses, reputational indicators, and control health.
- Analyze trends,identifyemerging risks, and recommend actions to strengthen the control environment.
- Monitor evolving payment, treasury management, fraud, artificial intelligence, data privacy, and operational risk trends toidentifyemerging risks and control implications.
- Partner with business leaders to mitigate risks surfaced through metrics and oversight activities.
Compliance & Examination Management
- Coordinate and support regulatory examinations and internal audits involving Treasury Management, Payment Operations, Fraud Operations, and Digital Banking activities, including matters related to NACHA Operating Rules, Regulation E, Regulation CC, OFAC, BSA/AML requirements, FFIEC guidance, and payment network operating rules.
- Coordinate deliverables and act asliaisonbetween business teams and control partners.
- Support SOX, model governance, and other internal review processes asappropriate.
Collaboration & Communication
- Act as a strong connector between the First Line of Defense, Second Line of Defense (Risk/Compliance), and Third Line of Defense (Audit).
- Translate regulatory and risk expectations into clear, actionable business guidance.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, including senior leadership.
- Drive implementation and execution ofFirstLinerisk programs includingThird-partyRisk, Operational Risk (RCSA), Regulatory Affairs, Business Resiliency, Corporate Governance, and Risk Appetite.
Qualifications & Education Requirements
- Bachelor27s ormaster27sdegree inBusiness Management, Operations, Finance, or related field.
- 10+ years of experience in financial services risk management, operational risk, treasury management, payment operations, banking operations, audit, or compliance, withdemonstratedexpertisesupporting payments, treasury services, commercial banking, or deposit operations.
- Experience executing and governing First Line Risk programs, including RCSA, Issue Management, Operational Loss Management, Change Risk Management, Control Testing, Risk Metrics, and Third-Party Risk Management.
- Experience supporting ACH, Wire, Merchant Services, Treasury Management, Card Services, Digital Banking, Fraud Operations, or Deposit Operations strongly preferred.
- 5+ years of leadership experience, including directpeopleleadership and/or leading cross-functional teams.
- Strong working knowledge of banking regulations, payment industry standards, and risk frameworks, including NACHA Operating Rules, Regulation E, Regulation CC, OFAC, BSA/AML requirements, FFIEC guidance, and payment network operating rules.
