Description

Reporting to the Department Administrator, the Sr. Business Manager serves as a change leader responsible for advancing operational excellence across the Department's academic, clinical, research, and education missions.

This position partners closely with departmental leadership, physician leaders, faculty, administrative teams, and institutional stakeholders to identify operational challenges, prioritize improvement opportunities, and implement sustainable solutions that enhance efficiency, consistency, service quality, and the faculty experience. Leveraging process improvement methodologies, data analytics, automation, artificial intelligence (AI), and other emerging technologies, the Sr. Business Manager drives initiatives that simplify operations, reduce administrative burden, and improve organizational effectiveness.

The role leads the development and implementation of technology-enabled tools and service models, including faculty resource and knowledge management platforms, self-service solutions, workflow automation, and other innovations that improve access to information and administrative support.

Working collaboratively across academic, clinical, research, and administrative functions, the Sr. Business Manager leads cross-functional initiatives that support departmental priorities and foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • Develops, administers and monitors budgets, accounts, policies and procedures relating to operational activities in the areas of human resources, finance, facilities management and research for a department, division or school.
  • Ensures that awarded grants conform to defined budget parameters and projects budget needs to accommodate future grant funding increases, changes and awards.
  • Ensures the preparation of operational and statistical reports for management and regulatory agencies.
  • May supervise staff and perform related responsibilities as required.

  • Partner with departmental leadership to identify, prioritize, and implement high-impact operational excellence and innovation initiatives.
  • Analyze, redesign, and optimize business processes that support faculty, administrative, and departmental operations.
  • Develop and implement standardized workflows, business rules, operating procedures, process documentation, and training materials.
  • Lead technology and automation initiatives that improve service delivery, access to information, and operational effectiveness.
  • Utilize data analytics and performance metrics to identify opportunities, measure outcomes, and support decision-making.
  • Manage cross-functional projects and change initiatives, ensuring stakeholder engagement and successful adoption of new processes and tools.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance or related field and five years of professional business or management experience or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
  • Some positions in this classification may require previous supervisory experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Administration, Industrial Engineering, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated success leading operational improvement, digital transformation, technology implementation, or organizational change initiatives.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas:
    Academic medicine, healthcare operations, physician practice administration, or higher education administration.
  • Business intelligence, data analytics, dashboard development, reporting, or decision-support systems.
  • SharePoint, knowledge management systems, intranet platforms, self-service portals, or digital resource libraries.
  • Project management, process improvement, Lean, Six Sigma, or change management methodologies.
