Posting Summary Rutgers University - Newark, an urban public research anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking a Business Manager III for the New Jersey Small Business Development Centers (NJSBDC) State Office hosted at Rutgers Business School. Reporting to the NJSBDC Associate State Director.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
- Manages the fiscal administration of grants and other funding sources supporting the NJSBDC State Office and statewide network.
- Develops, monitors, reconciles, and tracks budgets, expenditures, cost share, program income, and related financial activity for the State Office.
- Coordinates fiscal and grant-related activities with the NJSBDC's 7 regional subcenters.
- Assists with subrecipient monitoring, financial reviews, audit support, and follow-up on outstanding fiscal or documentation issues.
- Supports the day-to-day financial and administrative operations of the NJSBDC State Office.
- Maintains organized financial records and assists with Rutgers grant, procurement, and accounting workflows to help ensure accurate, timely, and compliant processing.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience - Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates knowledge of financial management, accounting principles, grants administration, and business operations.
- A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in financial administration, accounting, grants management, sponsored programs, business operations, or a related area is required.
Certifications/LicensesRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Demonstrates ability to manage budgets, reconciliations, financial reporting, and administrative processes across multiple funding sources.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills required, along with the ability to maintain accurate records, review financial documentation, and ensure compliance with university and sponsor requirements.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are also required.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, and the ability to work effectively with financial, grant, procurement, and administrative systems is required.
Preferred Qualifications - Master's degree, CPA, or other relevant professional credential preferred.
- Experience with grants management in higher education, nonprofit, or public-sector environments preferred.
- Familiarity with Rutgers financial, procurement, and sponsored program systems is also preferred.
Equipment Utilized - Computer, laptop, and standard office equipment. Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, and university financial, procurement, and sponsored program systems.
Physical Demands and Work Environment - This position operates in a professional office and hybrid work environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.
- The role is primarily sedentary but may require occasional standing, walking, lifting of light materials up to 25 pounds, and in-state travel to support meetings, reviews, or other NJSBDC activities.
