Full Job Description
Drive growth and market positioning for premier transactional practices at a leading global law firm.

Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer, a leading global law firm, is seeking a Business Development Manager to play a central role in advancing the firm's Transactional and U.S. Corporate practices. This position has been created in response to the continued growth and maturity of the firm's U.S. Corporate platform-including the expansion of strategic M&A capabilities, growth in the Energy and Mining sectors, and additional anticipated lateral growth-which have generated a need for dedicated, senior-level business development support. Reporting to the Head of Business Development - US Transactions, this role will drive strategic and tactical BD initiatives across Private Equity, M&A, Capital Markets, and Public Companies, while also supporting the firm's emerging Projects, Energy & Infrastructure, and Mining practices. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, commercially minded professional who thrives in a high-growth environment and can operate independently across multiple practice areas and stakeholders.

The role in action:

  • Lead strategic pitches, proposals, RFP responses, and presentations, partnering with attorneys to pursue new business opportunities and strengthen client relationships.
  • Maintain and enhance the firm's portfolio of transaction experience and credentials, ensuring materials are accurate, current, and aligned with market opportunities.
  • Conduct targeted market research and competitive analysis to identify emerging opportunities, inform practice strategy, and support market positioning efforts; deliver actionable intelligence to attorneys and practice leadership to guide client targeting and outreach.
  • Partner with practice leadership to execute initiatives that enhance market visibility, deepen client engagement, and support priority growth sectors.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality client-facing materials, including capability statements, opportunity analyses, market intelligence and thought leadership content; manage CRM data integrity and pipeline tracking to support strategic client engagement efforts.
  • Coordinate high-profile events, sponsorships, conferences, and client programs, managing logistics, communications, and post-event follow-up to maximize impact.

We are seeking candidates who:

  • Bring 5+ years of business development or marketing experience within a law firm or professional services environment, with a strong preference for candidates with direct exposure to transactional or corporate practices.
  • Hold a bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Demonstrate exceptional writing, editing, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in CRM platforms and experience management tools, and Microsoft Office Suite; comfort with data analysis and reporting.
