Full Job Description
Our client is seeking an experienced, hands-on Building Engineer to support the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of its corporate facilities. This position will lead maintenance activities, supervise technicians and contractors, perform preventive and corrective maintenance, and ensure building systems operate safely and efficiently.

Position: Building Engineer

Pay Rate: $40/hr. - $50/hr.

Location: Pleasanton, CA

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise 1-2 maintenance technicians and coordinate third-party contractors and skilled trades.
  • Perform and oversee preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and inspections of building systems and equipment.
  • Maintain HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, building automation (BAS), and fire/life safety systems.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and coordinate emergency repairs, including after-hours support when required.
  • Conduct routine facility inspections and identify safety, maintenance, and compliance issues.
  • Monitor contractor performance and ensure work meets quality, safety, and contractual requirements.
  • Support repair, renovation, and improvement projects, including scopes of work, estimates, inspections, and punch lists.
  • Maintain accurate work orders, equipment records, maintenance logs, and KPIs using a CMMS such as Corrigo.
  • Support preventive maintenance and energy management programs to improve equipment reliability and efficiency.
  • Maintain inventory of tools, supplies, and replacement parts.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, safety requirements, and company policies.

Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED required; trade school or vocational training in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, or general construction preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of commercial building maintenance/engineering experience, including experience as a Building Engineer, Lead Technician, or Supervisor.
  • Previous experience supervising maintenance staff and contractors required.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and fire/life safety systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs and CMMS/work-order systems preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to provide flexible and emergency/after-hours support when needed.
  • Ability to perform physical building maintenance duties, including climbing ladders and lifting/carrying 50 lbs. or more.
