We are seeking an experienced and motivated
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) to join our Calgary office. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering building code and fire and life safety consulting services, managing projects, supporting clients, and mentoring junior staff.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct building code and life safety reviews for a variety of projects, including both Part 3 and Part 9 buildings.
- Review architectural and engineering drawings to assess compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare technical analyses, code compliance strategies, reports, alternative solutions, and other project deliverables.
- Manage project assignments, project schedules, budgets, and deliverables while maintaining effective communication with clients and project teams.
- Participate in project meetings, site visits, field reviews, and inspections throughout the planning, design, permitting, construction, and occupancy phases.
- Collaborate with clients, architects, engineers, contractors, developers, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) to support successful project outcomes.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to Engineers-in-Training (EITs) and junior staff.
- Support proposal preparation, business development initiatives, and client relationship management.
- Exercise professional engineering judgment and responsibility for technical work products.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or a related discipline
- Minimum 5 years of experience in building code consulting, fire protection engineering, architecture, building science, or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with registration in Alberta through the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), or eligibility for immediate registration, and registration or eligibility for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC).
- Strong working knowledge of the National Building Code - Alberta Edition, with particular expertise in Part 3 and Part 9 requirements.
- Experience conducting building code reviews and preparing technical reports, analyses, and compliance documentation.
- Experience developing, preparing, and supporting alternative solutions and performance-based code compliance strategies.
- Experience working collaboratively with developers, architects, engineers, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
- Experience supporting projects through planning, design, permitting, construction, and occupancy phases.
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple concurrent projects and client relationships.
- Strong knowledge of fire and life safety principles, including occupant safety, exiting, spatial separations, fire-resistance ratings, and fire protection systems.
- Experience preparing and defending code compliance strategies and alternative solutions.
- Ability to interpret architectural and engineering drawings and apply applicable code requirements to building design.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and project management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing and client-facing presentations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
- Experience with site inspections, municipal permitting processes, and coordination with AHJs.
- Experience with fire engineering analyses, performance-based design, and alternative solutions is considered an asset.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with a broad range of building types, including both Part 3 and Part 9 buildings.
- Experience presenting technical code positions to municipalities and regulatory authorities.
- Certified Professional (CP) experience or equivalent municipal approval experience is considered an asset.
- Existing relationships within the Alberta development, architectural, engineering, and regulatory communities are considered an asset.

The estimated salary range for this role is $90,000 - $105,000 CAD. The salary range is based on a wide array of factors, including but not limited to skillset, experience, training, location, scope of role, management responsibility, etc.
