Full Job Description
The Opportunity

Tetra Tech is looking for a full-time Brownfields Consultant title based in Chantilly, VA, with demonstrated experience working with government agencies and communities to reuse and redevelop environmentally impaired or underutilized properties.

Position Summary

This position involves working closely with other managers and support staff as part of an overall program team to advance brownfields reuse. This position comes with significant opportunities for professional growth and increasing levels of responsibility and advancement.

Essential Job Functions

  • Supporting federal, state, and local brownfields programs by managing or supporting projects and project teams that assist with program-wide and/or community-specific brownfields redevelopment projects and initiatives.
  • Applying knowledge and familiarity with brownfields grant programs and related initiatives to advise federal or local clients on program strategies and project approaches, organize and implement projects to support the goals of brownfields programs, lead multidisciplinary teams of brownfields professionals to provide technical assistance to communities; and facilitate stakeholder engagement activities to advance project objectives.
  • Other responsibilities include managing client relations, leading projects or tasks, coordinating project teams, directing and carrying out project activities, and coordinating subcontractor or vendor activities.


Required Qualifications
  • Minimum five years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field of study.
  • Experience and familiarity with the federal EPA brownfields program including brownfields grants and other federal initiatives to advance the assessment, cleanup, and reuse of properties with real or perceived environmental contamination and the communities impacted by them.
  • Experience engaging with federal, state, and/or local governmental and non-governmental stakeholders to advance brownfields redevelopment project or program objectives.
  • Experience managing projects and project teams, including managing budgets, staff, and the delivery of support or services.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be fluent in English and work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow through.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to manage projects and project teams independently to meet deadlines.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office software.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Subject matter expertise in one or more specific aspects of the brownfields program and reuse process, including community grants, property transactions, community planning and sustainability, stakeholder engagement, visioning, reuse planning, equitable development, market and economic analyses, redevelopment financing, climate resilience, etc.
  • Familiarity or experience with federal government contracting policies and procedures is highly desirable.


Physical Requirements
  • Candidate must be able to function in an office environment doing office-based tasks.
  • Candidate must be able to facilitate and support in-person and virtual meetings.
  • Candidate must be able to travel to destinations across the U.S.


Work Environment / Environmental Factors
  • Work environment is primarily an office or other indoor environment with in-person and virtual collaboration with colleagues and clients.
  • Periodic local and domestic travel between Tetra Tech and client offices, project sites, or brownfield communities across the U.S. may be required.


Additional Information

Work schedule is Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. allowing for time zone differences.
