Job Description

The Office of Computing and Information Services (CIS) at the City University of New York (CUNY) provides centralized support for the 24 colleges' information technology (IT) and telecommunication needs. CIS' strategic services include: supporting enterprise IT and applications; developing new technologies that advance University's core mission; building, upgrading and maintaining the University's network; operating the University's Data Center and central help desk; developing a University IT Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity plan; and leading the CUNYfirst Enterprise Resource Planning Project (ERP), which integrates 25 university systems, merging student administration, financial management, and human resources into one amalgamated enterprise system.

Within CIS, the Application Services unit provides strategic and operational leadership with respect to the design, development, support, and maintenance of business applications. The unit works closely with senior leaders to ensure a strong alignment between application solutions/services and CUNY business needs.

Reporting to the Academic Applications Support Manager, the primary responsibilities of the Blackboard Administrator will be to provide University oversight of Blackboard, CUNY's Learning Management System (LMS), deliver ongoing user support such as troubleshooting complex user problems, and interact with Blackboard Domain Managers at all 24 CUNY Colleges and related
vendors to devise issue resolution.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Performs Blackboard maintenance and optimization such as resolution of access problems, and archiving and restoration of course sites.
- Interfaces with college Blackboard Administrators, and campus and central Service Desks to document, investigate and resolve application issues.
- Interfaces with support personnel from Blackboard, and other vendors to document, investigate and resolve application issues.
-Prepares and executes test plans to ensure that Blackboard's functionality is not compromised by the introduction of upgrades or new components.

- Monitors the batch interfaces between Blackboard and other applications, and supports licensed third-party software applications embedded within Blackboard.

- Collaborates with internal technical teams to conduct Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity
planning to ensure quality assurance of Blackboard application.
- Prepares and analyzes data for system efficiency such as Blackboard usage at each campus and activity logs.
- Serves as a technical resource in all aspects of systems, networks, and communications related to Blackboard LMS and other integrated third-party tools.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

Job duties require schedule flexibility and willingness to work evenings or weekends as required for systems-related tasks.

Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include:

- Five (5) years' experience with Blackboard or other Learning Management Systems.
- Blackboard Learn and Community Engagement experience preferred.
- Knowledge of Linux shell scripting, XML, HTML, Javascript and SQL.
- Experience with Blackboard Content Management Software (CMS).
- Familiarity with multi-computer application software platforms such as UNIX/LINUX, Windows and Oracle.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with
administrators and constituents at all CUNY colleges, and the Central
Office.
- Strong organizational skills to establish plans, manage a
varied workload with multiple priorities, and to follow-up and complete
work by time-sensitive prescribed deadlines.
