Position Summary:This position is responsible for reviewing neuroimaging data, applying Linux-based software, and supporting database and quality assurance activities. The role supports multimodal neuroimaging and genetics projects at JCVI, contributing to efforts aimed at developing and applying genomic risk assessment tools (e.g., polygenic risk scores, local ancestry analysis) in neurodegenerative diseases. Responsibilities also include the design and implementation of data analysis and reporting tools, oversight, review, and documentation of quality control procedures, preparation of reports and resources for research dissemination, and ensuring data integrity. Works independently to accomplish project goals and support improvements in tools and processes. Acts as a mentor for junior analysts in Bioinformatics Analyst I or Data Analyst - Imaging positions.
Position Responsibilities:- Reviewing neuroimaging data to ensure consistency and quality of data. Examples may include:
- Manually review unprocessed brain imaging data.
- Manually review the results of imaging workflows, including segmentation, parcellation, white matter analysis, and artifact review.
- Maintain reliability standards for manual image review. Conduct statistical analyses under supervision using MATLAB, python, and related computational software.
- Oversight and review of quality control methods application.
- Documentation of quality control procedures.
- Supporting MRI quality assurance activities. Examples may include:
- Track and monitor MRI phantom QA scans across sites
- Reviews scans for anomalies and escalates issues as needed.
- Produce QA metrics and graphs, contributing to regular QA work group meetings.
3. Ensure data integrity. Examples may include:
- Maintain records of data integrity issues and corrective efforts.
- Design and implement data analysis and reporting tools.
- Generate data tracking reports
- Handle data integrity issues via online ticketing systems
- Coordinate with data acquisition sites to correct data integrity issues.
4. Tool Maintenance and development to ensure tools are up to
- date and functioning in a changing work environment. Examples may include:
- Writing SOPs and documenting processes.
- Configuring pipelines.
- Testing and evaluating the output of changes in new tools.
- Scripting in support of quality control, web, and pipeline.
- Recognizing ways to improve processes and keeping aware of the latest technology and literature.
5. Training
- Availability for one-on-one training for staff.
- Creating and presenting training documentation and presentations.
6. Communication and documentation. Examples may include:
- Prepare reports and resources for research dissemination.
- Develop and maintain laboratory procedure manuals, database usage guides,
and training resources. - Prepare data reports, slides, graphics, and documentation to support publications,
presentations, and grant reporting. - Collaborate effectively with scientific, technical, and administrative staff across JCVI
and partner institutions.
7. Project Management including: Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of project status and project plans.
- Managing quality control.
- Distributing tasks to other members of the working group.
8. Performs other related duties as assigned.
9. Strictly adheres to all documented policies and procedures to include, carrying out all functions required of Institute employees (i.e., completion of timesheets and effort surveys in an accurate and timely manner).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:- Bachelor's or master's degree in the neuroscience or related fields and a minimum of three years of experience performing duties similar to the above or a Ph.D. required.
- Experience working with computers in the field of neuroimaging performing duties similar to those above.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and analyze neuroanatomic structures in imaging data.
- Ability to apply bioinformatics tools and quality control methods to neuroimaging data.
- Familiarity with structural and functional MRI research methods and quality control / assurance workflows.
- Proficiency with Linux, shell scripting, matlab, and python
- Computer proficiency, including word processing and spreadsheet applications.
- Ability to learn additional computer skills quickly.
- Skill in organizing and curating datasets, preparing reports, and generating scientific graphics.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for scientific and non-technical audiences.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to meet schedules.
- Flexibility to handle a variety of tasks and shift priorities simultaneously.
