Position Summary
The J. Frank Barefield Jr. College of Arts & Sciences (BCAS) seeks a tenured associate or full professor from one of the BCAS departments, schools, or programs, to serve until August 2027 as Assistant Dean for Faculty Success and Support. The renewability of this position is subject to the discretion and strategic direction of the next permanent Dean of BCAS, and budgetary availability.
Detailed Position Information
The Assistant Dean will work with department chairs to support the development of post-tenure review plans, consistent with College and departmental standards for routine performance that meets expectations in teaching, research, and service. Other responsibilities will include working with the Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs, the Faculty Affairs Coordinator, and other Dean's Office personnel to support faculty. Anticipated additional responsibilities may include reviewing international travel requests and liaising with International Student & Scholar Services, managing conversions and contract renewals for renewable contract faculty, working with chairs on ongoing review and refinement of promotion or annual evaluation guidelines, promoting equity in workloads across the College, overseeing periodic reviews of endowed chairs/professors, and undertaking special faculty development projects.
The Assistant Dean will retain their departmental reporting channel for general faculty duties, while reporting through the BCAS Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs in their administrative capacity.
Minimum Qualifications
Tenure in the J. Frank Barefield Jr. College of Arts & Sciences
Preferred Qualifications
Experience as a current or former department chair
