ResponsibilitiesRole Purpose: The Balance Sheet Strategist will support the Fixed Income FIG team by analyzing bank, credit union, insurance company, and institutional investor balance sheets to identify investment opportunities and liability management solutions. This individual will work closely with senior sales professionals, traders, and clients to develop actionable strategies related to securities portfolio management, liquidity optimization, capital efficiency, interest rate risk management, and fixed income investment allocation.
This position is ideal for a motivated finance professional seeking to develop expertise in fixed income markets, depository institution balance sheet management, and structured product investing.
- Analyze bank, credit union, insurance company, and institutional investor balance sheets, earnings reports, call reports, and regulatory filings
- Monitor trends in liquidity, loan growth, securities portfolios, funding costs, capital levels, and asset-liability management metrics
- Assist senior FIG professionals in identifying fixed income investment opportunities across:
- Agency MBS
- CMBS
- SBA securities
- Asset-Backed Securities (ABS)
- Municipal securities
- Treasuries and Agencies
- Structured products
- Develop client-specific portfolio recommendations based on balance sheet positioning, risk tolerance, and investment objectives
- Create and maintain screening tools, databases, and models used to identify prospective clients and investment opportunities
- Produce market commentary and client presentations regarding:
- Interest rate outlook
- Yield curve dynamics
- Spread relationships
- Portfolio strategy
- Regulatory developments
- Assist with preparation of pitch books, portfolio reviews, and investment strategy presentations for client meetings
- Conduct ongoing surveillance of existing client portfolios and market conditions
- Support senior sales personnel in business development, client outreach, and relationship management activities.
- Work with trading, research, compliance, and operations teams to facilitate client transactions and ensure regulatory adherence
- Maintain current knowledge of banking industry developments, regulatory changes, and fixed income market trends
QualificationsRequired Experience- Minimum 2 years of experience in one or more of the following:
- Fixed Income Sales
- Fixed Income Trading
- Investment Banking
- Bank Treasury
- Asset Liability Management (ALM)
- Financial Institutions Group (FIG)
- Capital Markets
- Investment Portfolio Management
- Equity or Fixed Income Research
Licensing Requirements- FINRA Series 7 License (Required)
- FINRA Series 63 License (Required)
Education- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business, Mathematics, or related field required
- Advanced degree (MBA, MS Finance, CFA designation or progress toward CFA) preferred but not required
Technical Skills- Strong understanding of fixed income markets and securities
- Knowledge of bank balance sheets, call reports, and financial statement analysis
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and financial databases
- Experience with Bloomberg, S&P Global Market Intelligence, FactSet, or similar financial platforms preferred
- Ability to perform quantitative analysis and financial modeling

Hiring Salary Range: $100,000-$135,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data). Subject to business performance and recommendations of management, this role may be eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan. This compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position, is offered.
