Job Summary The Backend Modernization Engineer IV is responsible for designing, developing, modernizing, and implementing scalable backend solutions that address complex business and technical challenges. This role partners closely with business and technology stakeholders to build modern, cloud-ready applications, drive application containerization initiatives, and establish best practices for application modernization. The ideal candidate combines strong software engineering expertise with deep knowledge of containerized architectures, microservices, and modern Java-based development frameworks.
Key Responsibilities - Design, develop, and implement application code and technical solutions to address business needs and operational challenges.
- Perform all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, application design, development, testing, deployment, and support.
- Design and implement product features, reusable components, frameworks, and libraries in collaboration with business and IT stakeholders.
- Develop applications and services that solve complex analytical and business problems.
- Architect and deliver scalable software solutions for modern backend platforms.
- Partner with strategic customers and internal teams to containerize applications using modern containerization methodologies.
- Establish and promote best practices for application modernization and containerization across diverse application platforms.
- Automate build, testing, deployment, and operational processes to improve quality, reliability, and efficiency.
- Code, test, release, monitor, and support production applications and data solutions.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of microservices-based architectures and cloud-native solutions.
Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field; or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
- Strong experience developing applications using Java, Spring, and Spring Boot.
- Experience with modern application containerization and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
- Knowledge of microservices architecture and distributed systems design principles.
- Experience designing, developing, and testing enterprise-scale software applications.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience working with Backbase APIs and related digital banking platform integrations.
- Experience modernizing legacy applications and transforming them into containerized, cloud-ready solutions.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automation frameworks, and DevOps practices.
- Experience developing reusable frameworks, libraries, and shared platform capabilities.
