Full Job Description
The Chief Pricing Office (CPO) is an independent, enterprise-wide owner of pricing value creation, ensuring that every deal and every line of business delivers sustainable, risk-appropriate economic value. The CPO serves as the central hub for pricing frameworks, tools, assumptions, and governance across the organization.

The CPO mandate includes:

  • Establishing pricing guardrails, frameworks, and standard assumptions to support consistent and accurate pricing
  • Acting as a center of pricing expertise, providing guidance and challenge to business lines throughout the deal lifecycle
  • Providing first-line protection through deal review, oversight, and escalation where appropriate
  • Monitoring pricing performance, identifying emerging risks or underperformance, and driving continuous improvement

Role Overview (AVP):

As an AVP & Actuary within the Chief Pricing Office, you will serve as a senior leader and key owner of CPO standards-bringing independent actuarial judgment, governance leadership, and strategic influence across the most material and complex transactions. You will partner closely with pricing, valuation, finance, risk, and business stakeholders to review complex deals, set and reinforce enterprise pricing standards, and drive enhancements to frameworks, tools, and assumptions that support risk-appropriate value creation.

In this role, you will be expected to exercise strong actuarial judgment on complex deal structures, identify key sources of risk and value, and communicate clear recommendations-often under tight timelines. You will also help shape CPO governance and standard-setting, including escalation and approval pathways for high-impact pricing decisions. This role has exposure to leadership responsibilities with potential to manage a team.

Responsibilities:

Pricing Frameworks, Assumptions & Governance

  • Develop, maintain, and enforce enterprise pricing frameworks across business lines
  • Own and evolve standard pricing assumptions reflecting experience, market conditions, and emerging risks
  • Educate and support pricing teams on best practices and consistent application of pricing concepts
  • Embed new methodologies, underwriting techniques, and governance standards into pricing processes

Deal Review & Oversight

  • Review and challenge pricing for transactions meeting defined materiality, complexity, or risk thresholds
  • Engage early in the deal lifecycle to provide guidance on go / no-go decisions, structure, and assumptions
  • Opine on the appropriateness of pricing and escalate concerns in line with CPO governance
  • Partner with business lines to balance commercial objectives with disciplined risk-adjusted returns

Monitoring, Analytics & Feedback

  • Support development and use of KPIs and monitoring metrics to assess pricing performance
  • Analyze underperforming blocks or transactions and identify remediation actions
  • Identify trends and deviations in pricing results and drive updates to frameworks or assumptions

Collaboration & Leadership

Act as a trusted advisor to Pricing, Valuation, Finance, ERM, and senior business leadership on risk/return trade-offs and pricing governance

  • Lead cross-functional forums to drive alignment and adoption of CPO standards, while maintaining appropriate independence and challenge
  • Mentor and develop actuarial talent across the pricing community; elevate technical capability and best practices
  • Represent the CPO in governance discussions and influence decisions on high-impact transactions and methodology changes

Qualifications:

  • FSA designation required
  • 10+ years of actuarial experience with a strong focus on pricing and valuation
  • Strong understanding of core pricing concepts, profitability metrics, and risk trade-offs
  • People management experience preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in one or more of the following lines of business:

    • Retail Life and Annuity products
    • Pension Risk Transfer (PRT)
    • Financial Reinsurance
    • Group Life and Long-Term Disability (LTD)
    • Disability Income (DI) and/or Long-Term Care (LTC)

  • Strong analytical judgment with the ability to operate at both technical and strategic levels
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex concepts and influence stakeholders across functions
  • Prior experience operating within a pricing governance, review, or second-line oversight function
  • Exposure to complex or bespoke transaction structures and non-standard deal features
  • Experience partnering with ERM, Finance, Valuation, or senior underwriting leadership
