Aviation ArchitectWe9re looking for an
Aviation Architect who wants more than a role on a massive airport project. This is an opportunity to join an established Architectural Team with a growing aviation practice and
help build that practice from the ground up. Our work today is focused on regional airports, including terminal buildings, hangars, administration and operations facilities, renovations, and other aviation-related infrastructure. Over time, we expect that platform to grow-and we want the person in this role to grow with it.
If you9re an architect who enjoys working closely with engineers, solving real-world problems, talking with clients, and seeing projects move from concept through construction, this could be a great fit.
What You9ll DoYou9ll work as a key member of our architecture team, partnering closely with our aviation engineers and other A/E professionals to deliver thoughtful, practical projects for airport clients.
Your work may include:
- Leading architectural design for regional airport projects, including terminals, hangars, administration buildings, maintenance facilities, and renovations.
- Working side-by-side with aviation, civil, structural, MEP, and other engineering disciplines to develop coordinated solutions.
- Taking projects from early planning and programming through design, permitting, bidding, and construction administration.
- Developing concepts, presentations, drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
- Participating in client meetings and helping translate airport needs into buildable solutions.
- Developing an understanding of FAA, airport, building code, accessibility, and other applicable requirements.
- Visiting project sites and working directly with owners, contractors, and consultants.
- Helping identify opportunities with existing and prospective aviation clients.
- Contributing to the growth of our aviation practice, not simply executing work that has already been won.
This Role Has Room to GrowWe9re intentionally building this practice with the long term in mind.
You won9t be walking into a fully built-out aviation architecture department with layers of management between you and the work.
You9ll have the opportunity to help define what our aviation practice becomes. As the practice grows, we see opportunities for this person to take on increasing responsibility for:
- Client relationships and business development
- Project and team leadership
- Aviation market strategy
- Mentoring and developing architectural staff
- Building repeat work with airport clients
- Pursuing larger and more complex aviation projects
Our immediate focus is on
regional airports and the facilities that keep them operating. We believe that is a great place to build a strong aviation practice-and a strong career. As our relationships and capabilities grow, so can the size and complexity of the airports and projects we pursue.
What We9re Looking ForWe9re looking for someone who is both a
good architect and a good teammate.
You9ll likely be a strong fit if you have:
- A professional degree in Architecture.
- Architectural licensure, or a clear path toward licensure.
- 5+ years of architectural experience, preferably with aviation, transportation, public-sector, or other technically complex projects.
- Experience taking projects through multiple phases of design and documentation.
- Strong Revit and/or AutoCAD skills.
- An understanding of building codes, accessibility requirements, and construction documentation.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with engineers and other disciplines.
- The ability to manage your own work while contributing to a larger project team.
- An interest in working directly with clients and helping develop new opportunities.
- A practical, collaborative approach to design and problem solving.
Aviation experience is highly valued, but we9re open to the right architect coming from an adjacent market-particularly someone with experience in transportation, public facilities, industrial, institutional, or other technically demanding project types.
The Person We Hope to FindThe right person probably doesn9t need to be the person who has already designed the world9s largest airport terminal.
In fact,
you may be looking for something different from that.You9re someone who wants to be close to the work. You like figuring things out with engineers. You enjoy talking to clients. You9re comfortable wearing a few different hats. And you9re excited by the idea of joining a growing practice where
your contribution can directly influence where the business goes next. You may already know aviation inside and out-or you may have strong architectural fundamentals and be ready to make aviation your specialty.
Most importantly, you9re looking for a place where there is
room to build, room to lead, and room to grow.Where You9ll WorkThis is primarily an office-based role, with opportunities to get out into the field and stay connected to the projects and people you9re serving. In our GMC Atlanta Office, you will work in amazing diverse culture, along with having access to an onsite gym and a cafe9.
Travel: Up to 20%, including project site visits, client meetings, professional development, and other project-related activities.
Fieldwork may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, temperatures, construction environments, pollutants, chemicals, insects, and other site conditions. Appropriate protective clothing and equipment will be provided and required as appropriate.
The role also includes periods of desk and computer work, as well as occasional bending, twisting, crouching, and other physical movements. Employees may occasionally need to lift up to 25 pounds.
Why Join Us?- Build something: Help shape a growing aviation architecture practice rather than simply inherit an established one.
- Work across disciplines: Collaborate directly with experienced aviation engineers and the broader A/E team.
- Have client exposure: Build relationships with airport owners and decision-makers.
- See your work get built: Work on practical projects with tangible impact on the communities and airports we serve.
- Grow with the practice: Your role and leadership opportunities can expand as our aviation portfolio does.
- Make an impact: In a growing practice, your ideas and initiative matter.
Interested? If you9re an architect who is excited about aviation, enjoys working with engineers, and wants the opportunity to
help build something rather than simply step into something already built, we9d like to hear from you.
