Summary/Objective:

Automation Superintendent is responsible for designing, installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing automated systems that control various processes in oil and gas production, refining, and distribution. This role involves working with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisitions (SCADA) systems, sensors, and other instrumentation to ensure efficient and safe operation. The role requires applying the latest trends in automation technology and adhering to industry standards and safety regulations.

Essential Functions:
  • Motivate the automation team and other employees to achieve individual and divisional goals, maximizing efficiency and safety.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, positive, and innovative work environment that fosters growth and job satisfaction.
  • Work closely with the Safety & Quality team to promote an error-free workplace
  • Develop and implement training programs to enhance team capabilities.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of automation technologies, control systems, and industry standards.
  • Perform work in proximity to energized equipment and hazardous environments, ensuring safety protocols are followed.
  • Interpret technical drawings, system diagrams, and engineering plans to guide project execution.

  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues in automation systems, recommending effective solutions.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance management for team members.
  • Develop project scopes, estimates, material lists, schedules, and budgets.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of various control systems, including PLC, HMI, SCADA, and DCS.
  • Conduct employee evaluations and make recommendations for promotions, training, and development.
  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and termination processes for team members.
  • Collaborate with contractors, engineers, vendors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Formulate a vision and strategy for future automation developments and business growth
  • Manage projects to ensure profitability and expected cash flow, tracking financial performance regularly.
  • Develop annual budgets aligned with the business plan and present them for approval.
  • Maintain a master schedule for current proposals, project work, and maintenance activities.
  • Regularly review project progress to identify issues, ensure specification compliance, and monitor quality.
  • Track company, divisional, and individual performance metrics, ensuring alignment with goals.
  • Verify that all personnel conduct regular meetings to discuss project delivery and team updates.
  • Make recommendations for employee salary adjustments and bonuses based on performance.
  • Resolve project issues in collaboration with estimators, project managers, owners, and subcontractors.
  • Monitor safety metrics and act on feedback from the Safety & Quality Department.
  • Attend all division-related project meetings and contribute to discussions.
  • Ensure the quality of automation work meets or exceeds contract specifications and company standards.
  • Oversee project documentation to maintain accurate records of all activities and correspondence.

  • Monitor project documentation and ensure that appropriate correspondence and records are being maintained.
  • Review financial performance of division with Leadership monthly.

  • Must be able to present acceptable documents evidencing identity and employment authorizations per the Federal I-9 requirement.
  • Safety-minded and compliant with safety regulations

Work Environment

The company will supply adequate training and equipment to perform the functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work outside in all weather conditions. The employee is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, cold weather, extreme heat, sustained noisy environment and vibration.

Physical Demands

The role requires the ability to walk up to 5 miles and physically perform tasks such as climbing stairs, sitting, standing, walking, carrying, pushing, and lifting up to 75 lbs. It also involves pulling, kneeling, bending, twisting, and repetitive wrist and hand movements for extended periods. The Electrical Services Manager must possess physical agility, manual dexterity, and mental acuity to handle various tasks throughout the shift.

Position type and expected hours of work:

Must be flexible. The typical schedule is M-Sat. Some weekends/holidays are required.
