Full Job Description
We're looking for an Electrical Engineering Manager to lead a team to design, development, and support high-performance Actuator Products for next-generation humanoid robotic platforms. This role sits at the intersection of product design, cutting edge motor drive and sensing technology, and manufacturing, shaping how complex electromechanical systems are conceived, integrated, brought to life at scale, and maintained in the field. The actuators enable our robots to move and accomplish their complex work - this is a critical role on the Atlas team. As an Engineering Manager at Boston Dynamics, you are not just a people manager. You will be responsible for guiding a team of Architects and Mechanical Engineers, mentoring and coaching people as well as providing technical oversight and backstopping. Your team will own all aspects of electrical system design from initial architecture, through implementation, and into production. You will provide technical leadership, personnel management, and make meaningful technical contributions.

How you will make an impact:
  • Manage a team of 5-10 electrical engineers to design, develop and continuously improve high-performance robotic actuator products.
  • Provide technical leadership in planning, architecting, and executing electrical system designs.
  • Collaborate with other managers and engineers on hard design problems, work across disciplines to understand failure modes and design tests to validate design performance
  • Evaluate, derisk and introduce new technologies to improve performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Work with manufacturing, suppliers, technicians, contract manufacturers, and logistics to guarantee that the right electrical systems are assembled and functional in the right place at the right time
  • Troubleshoot issues, root cause failure analysis, design and implement corrective and preventative solutions
  • Mentor and influence engineers through design reviews, analysis & simulation, standards development, documentation, and architectural best practices.

We are looking for:
  • Proven experience leveraging a team to deliver impact.
  • Confident and dynamic communicator, able to build consensus and influence decision making at various levels.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to lead architectural trade studies and balance innovation, cost, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Experience working across disciplines and influencing technical direction without direct authority.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguous problem spaces and setting technical direction for others.
  • Deep experience architecting complex electromechanical products, with a strong emphasis on tight packaging, reliability, and thermal management
  • Extensive experience with power electronics and/or motor drives
  • Experience with design and validation of high speed communication interfaces
  • Experience with High-Density Interconnect (HDI) PCB routing and deep knowledge of PCB fabrication and assembly processes
  • Working understanding of EMC/EMI testing and troubleshooting
  • Working knowledge of Linux, bootloaders, and peripheral drivers
  • Strong systems engineering fundamentals
  • Expert-level proficiency using schematic capture and PCB layout software

Nice to have:
  • Firmware development in C
  • Experience with volume manufacturing
  • Experience with Python, LabView, or MATLAB
  • A working knowledge of failure avoidance methods like DFMEA/PFMEA and structured problem solving methods like 8D

We are interested in all qualified candidates eligible to work in the United States. However, we are not able to sponsor visas for this position.

The base pay range for this position is between $150,000 to $200,000 annually. Base pay will depend on multiple individualized factors including, but not limited to internal equity, job related knowledge, skills and experience.
