Full Job Description
The Associate Vice President for Oncology serves as the administrative leader of the Oncology Service Line. This position has primary responsibility for implementing and managing the administrative and operational functions assigned to the service line, in accordance with Mary Washington Healthcare policies, procedures, and decision-making structure. The Associate Vice President participates in major direction-setting activities for the service line, partnering with physician and nurse leaders to advance growth, quality, safety, experience, and cost performance across every site of care. Essential Functions & Responsibilities: Strategy & performance • Partner with the Medical Director and nurse leadership to develop and implement the service line strategy and annual priorities and targets. Sample targets include growth, quality, safety, patient experience, and cost performance; the full set is defined annually with executive and physician leadership and is not limited to these measures. • Maintain and monitor the service line performance scorecard; develop business plans and analyses for service line initiatives in collaboration with Strategy & Planning and Finance. • Represent the service line in budget development and capital planning; complete analyses and develop budget inputs. Growth & community outreach • Identify market and programmatic growth opportunities in collaboration with physician leadership, hospital leadership, other service lines, and system services. • Develop market research, analyses, and business plans with Strategy, Marketing, and Finance; execute growth plans and market communications, including negotiation of growth transactions. • Participate in community relations and screening and early-detection outreach in partnership with care delivery sites and community partners. Operations • Manage service line operations system-wide in collaboration with site leadership: resource plans, cost management across all sites of care, and administrative policies, procedures, and staffing standards. • Design staffing mix, hours of operation, space allocation, and patient scheduling and access processes for service line care sites; partner with Patient Accounting on insurance verification and registration. • Negotiate and execute purchased-service contracts in collaboration with supply chain; evaluate the need for and engage external consultants. • Maintain responsibility for Joint Commission readiness and for Commission on Cancer and NAPBC accreditation, in partnership with Oncology service line physician and nurse leaders. • Support tumor boards and cancer conferences and grow community access to clinical trials. People & culture • Oversee management systems for non-clinical staff assigned to the service line: recruit, onboard, develop, and retain staff; participate in compensation decisions; approve administrative schedules; and manage performance with an emphasis on coaching for excellence. • Lead direct reports; develop service line training and education for non-clinical staff. • Partner with physician and nurse leaders to develop the service line as a clinical practice home — engagement plans, culture integration, and internal service line communications. Partnership & collaboration • Build and sustain effective, collaborative partnerships across MWHC — physician and nurse leaders, site administrative leadership, other service lines, clinical support services (pharmacy, laboratory, and imaging), and system services representatives (HR, IT, Finance, Strategic Planning). • Other duties as assigned. Physical Requirements: Constant (67-100% of workday) sitting and use of arms and hands; occasional (0-33% of workday) standing, walking, bending, squatting; ability to lift, push, and pull up to 10 lbs.; auditory and visual skills. Environmental Requirements and Exposure Hazards: Potential risk of exposure to chemicals. Compensation Pay Range: $90.39 - $135.58
