Position: Associate Vice President for Advancement

Position Summary:

Under the direction and guidance of the Vice President for Institutional Advancement (VPIA) the Associate Vice President for Advancement is an integral part of the Institutional Advancement team. In fulfilling this role and its related responsibilities, the Associate Vice President for Advancement assists the Advancement team in achieving the University's goals and objectives in the areas of Capital Fundraising, Planned Giving, Annual Fund Giving, and Advancement Services reflecting ambitious year-over-year growth. The Associate Vice President for Advancement possesses a comprehensive track record of fundraising accomplishments, constituent relations, and demonstrated capacity to work within a team environment. The Associate Vice President for Advancement is responsible for creating and implementing a program to increase foundation giving to Campbell University, while serving as a collaborative and critical partner with our academic schools and units on campus. The AVP will build on existing relationships and establish new foundation partners to move the university's mission forward.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Major Gifts:
    • Oversee a portfolio of major giving donors; initiate, cultivate, solicit and steward all gift prospects for all approved university fundraising priorities.
    • Serves as a catalyst in driving revenue generation of major gifts of $25,000+ with an emphasis on five (5), six (6) and seven (7) figure gifts to enhance ongoing revenue growth with strategic focus on retaining and upgrading donors while building a robust pipeline of prospects tied to the annual measurement of goals.
    • Meet or exceed established performance metrics, including securing new gifts and pledges of $25,000 and above, developing and presenting gift proposals, completing prospect visits, and demonstrating overall progress toward assigned fundraising goals.
    • Provide individualized and strategic stewardship contact for existing major gift donors.
    • Promote involvement of volunteers and board members in the university's Fund for Campbell efforts.
    • Support the fundraising goals of Institutional Advancement through special fundraising projects in alignment with the university's strategic plan as assigned by the Vice President for Institutional Advancement.
    • Collaborate with the Associate Vice President for Alumni Engagement and Director of Alumni Engagement around planning for Alumni Weekend and serve as the lead fundraiser for Class Reunions.
    • Serve as the fundraising liaison between Institutional Advancement and assigned schools/units.
    • Always maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
    • Assist in fundraising efforts across the spectrum of the University.

  • Foundation Relations:
    • Develop and lead foundation relationship strategy both for internal and external relationships. Manage a portfolio of foundation partners and implement cultivation and solicitation strategies; conduct personal meetings with prospects and donors annually and engage in ongoing solicitations for support.
    • Work with advancement colleagues, faculty, deans, and staff to identify and solicit foundation support. Communicates and engages internal partners to explore and interact effectively and efficiently with external foundation funders and funding opportunities.
    • Effectively reports and stewards foundation partnerships to ensure continued support.
    • Maintains clear understanding of university research efforts and the goals and priorities of the Office of Sponsored Research & Programs (OSRP).
  • Staff Management:
    • Supervise, train and manage efforts of a team of major gift officers.
    • Evaluate workload, set performance objectives, monitor performance and provide feedback on performance results, conduct regular staff meetings and share information to keep Advancement staff abreast of fundraising activities overall.
    • Assure collaboration of major gift officers with ongoing policies and procedures related to gift acceptance, prospect management and alumni engagement activities.

Education/Experience:
  • Four-year college degree required. Master's Degree desired.
  • Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in higher education, nonprofit organizations, or a related field, with demonstrated expertise in fundraising, donor stewardship, and prospect cultivation, preferred.
  • Supervisory or management experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and attention to detail are essential.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Adobe Suite, and the Internet.
  • Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing with trustees, faculty, staff, students, high-level university officials and the public.
  • Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people.
  • Exercise independent judgment in complex and new situations.
  • Mange multiple, concurrent projects, and meet strict deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented and willing to work in a changing environment.
  • Uphold, and abide by, Campbell University policies and procedures.
