Full Job Description
General Description:

The primary function of the Associate Veterinarian is to provide professional veterinary services in accordance with the policies of the Practice and the highest standards of the veterinary profession. This will include the consultation with animal owners and subsequent diagnosis and implementation of a treatment or surgical protocol, as well as the adequate supervision of lay staff in order to fulfil these obligations. This will include elements of supervision, planning and coordinating efforts of others to ensure that the Hospital remains profitable while ensuring the highest quality veterinary services are provided.

Required Knowledge:

The position of Associate Veterinarian requires the holding of the degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or similar degree from an accredited veterinary school satisfactory for licensing in the province for which they are employed.

Reporting:

The Associate Veterinarian's primary reporting responsibility is to the Office or Practice Manager of the veterinary Practice.

Specific Accountabilities:

The Associate Veterinarian is responsible to perform all of the usual functions of a veterinary practitioner and is accountable for client cases for which he/she has carriage including, but not limited to routine therapeutic procedures, veterinary surgery, patient records management, post-operative observation, accurate client billing, and case reviews with the Medical Director or his/her designate.

The Associate Veterinarian is expected to maintain his/her professional standards.

General Accountabilities:

Ensures work is carried out in a safe and effective manner and contributes to a work environment based on mutual trust and respect.
