Full Job Description
About This Role

We are looking for a Strategic Finance Associate who combines the technical rigor of a Big 4 background with the scrappiness required to build a company from the ground up. You will serve as the financial backbone of the organization, owning everything from high-level valuation of our litigation docket to day-to-day operational accounting.

This is not a traditional back-office role. You will be analyzing the "collectability" of potential defendants, valuing complex legal assets, and managing the flow of funds between our operating entities and law firm partners. You will be the primary liaison with our external accounting firm, ensuring our books are pristine, while also jumping in to handle office operations. We need a low ego, high impact teammate who is ready to own a broad portfolio of responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A): Own the company's core financial models, including the annual budget, operating plan, and long-term financial forecasts. Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide variance analysis to leadership, highlighting opportunities and risks.
  • Litigation Portfolio Valuation & Analysis: Lead the financial analysis and modeling of our legal docket. This involves creating complex models for case valuation, assessing the probability-weighted return on investment (ROI) for litigation, and conducting research on the "collectability" of defendants to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Operational Accounting & External Audit Management: Handle daily core accounting functions, including Accounts Receivable (AR), Accounts Payable (AP), and invoicing. Serve as the primary liaison for our external accounting firm, ensuring clean books, timely month-end close support, and seamless preparation for tax filings and potential audits.
  • Entity & Partner Fund Flow Management: Manage the complex financial workflows associated with our multi-entity structure and law firm partnerships. Ensure accurate and compliant movement of funds related to contingency fees, expense reimbursements, and settlement disbursements between all parties.

Qualifications
  • 2-3+ years of experience in Audit, Tax, or Advisory at a "Big 4" accounting firm (Deloitte, PwC, EY, KPMG) is required. Experience with legal finance/accounting is a bonus.
  • Exceptional proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets and experience building and maintaining 3-statement models, budgeting tools, and valuation models.
  • Previous experience at a startup is a significant bonus; a strong desire to transition from a large firm to a high-growth startup environment is a must.
  • You must be a hands-on operator, willing to manage both high-level financial strategy and day-to-day administrative/operational tasks.
  • Ability to translate complex financial and legal concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-finance stakeholders.
  • Personal interest in the company mission-to give people power over their personal data.

Compensation
  • The expected base salary for this role is $80K - $100K. In addition to the base salary, this role will include an equity component.

Benefits
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance for all employees and their dependents
  • Monthly transit stipend
  • A medical FSA to cover certain out-of-pocket medical, dental, and vision expenses
  • Daily in-office lunches

Location
  • Atlas utilizes a hybrid working model, with employees typically expected to work at least 3 days/week in our New York City office (Flatiron).
