Job Title: Associate Professor to Professor - Orthopedic Trauma Surgeon



Job Summary:

The Department of Orthopedics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine is seeking an outstanding Orthopedic Trauma Surgeon with expertise in limb reconstruction, limb salvage, deformity correction, nonunion surgery, and bone infection to serve as the next Director of the University of Colorado Limb Restoration Program.

This is an exceptional opportunity to lead one of the nation's most innovative and comprehensive multidisciplinary limb restoration programs. Established in 2015, the University of Colorado Limb Restoration Program has become an internationally recognized destination for patients with complex extremity conditions through its integrated, patient-centered approach to limb preservation and restoration. The program combines expertise from orthopedic trauma, plastic surgery, vascular surgery, musculoskeletal oncology, infectious disease, physical medicine and rehabilitation, prosthetics and orthotics, physical therapy, radiology, wound care, and numerous additional specialties to deliver comprehensive care for patients.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership

• Lead and further develop the University of Colorado Limb Restoration Program
• Direct a multidisciplinary team including dedicated Advanced Practice Providers, Nurse Navigator, Athletic Trainers, Program Coordinators, and clinical support staff
• Coordinate multidisciplinary conferences involving orthopedic surgery, plastic surgery, vascular surgery, infectious disease, rehabilitation medicine, prosthetics/orthotics, oncology, radiology, wound care, and other specialties
• Continue expansion of regional, national, and international referral networks
• Foster innovation in multidisciplinary models of limb preservation and reconstruction
• Partner with hospital and departmental leadership to guide strategic growth of the program

Clinical

• Limb salvage following trauma
• Adult and post-traumatic deformity correction
• Limb lengthening and reconstruction
• Nonunion and malunion surgery
• Fracture-related infection and osteomyelitis
• Bone transport and bone defect reconstruction
• Complex lower extremity reconstruction
• Complex amputee care
• Possible opportunity for osseointegration (experience preferred)

The successful candidate will also participate in the Orthopedic Trauma call schedule at University of Colorado Hospital.

Research Opportunities

The Director will lead a growing multidisciplinary research enterprise focused on limb restoration and reconstruction.

Outstanding opportunities exist to:

• Develop investigator-initiated clinical research
• Participate in multicenter prospective clinical trials
• Collaborate with an established multidisciplinary research team
• Work closely with engineers, rehabilitation scientists, biomechanics investigators, and translational researchers across the Anschutz Medical Campus, CU Boulder, and Colorado State University Veterinary School
• Expand clinical outcomes, health services, and translational research programs
• Mentor residents, fellows, medical students, and research personnel

Protected academic time and substantial institutional support are available for candidates with demonstrated research productivity and external funding potential.

Education

• Educate orthopedic surgery residents
• Participate in medical student education
• Develop limb restoration educational curricula
• Mentor trainees interested in limb reconstruction and complex trauma
• Contribute to national educational initiatives through OTA, LLRS, AAOS, and related organizations

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Associate Professor

• Expertise in limb reconstruction and deformity correction
• Experience with limb salvage and fracture-related infection

Professor

• MD or DO
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Orthopedic Surgery
• Fellowship training in Orthopedic Trauma
• Eligible for medical licensure in Colorado
• Demonstrated commitment to academic surgery, education, and multidisciplinary patient care
• Expertise in limb reconstruction and deformity correction
• Experience with limb salvage and fracture-related infection
• Leadership experience within multidisciplinary clinical programs
• Experience with osseointegration and advanced reconstructive techniques

Preferred Qualifications:

• Record of scholarly productivity
• Evidence of successful mentorship and education

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Associate Professor - $486,895 to $790,759

Professor - $476,522 to $886,462

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
