Associate General Counsel

Summary/Objective:

The Associate General Counsel will provide expert legal advice to and guide the organization's business units and senior management on a broad range of matters, including General Business Matters, Contracts, Litigation, Employment/Labor, Transactions, Healthcare Regulatory and other areas as needed.

Essential Functions

1. Advises internal stakeholders on a wide range of general business matters, including corporate matters, joint ventures, human resources issues, transactions, contracts and patient incidents

2. Prepares and negotiates contracts, in conjunction with General Counsel and internal Contracts Manager

3. Leads initiatives on corporate structuring and corporate/contract management

4. Analyzes and researches specific healthcare regulatory topics, in conjunction with General Counsel and internal Compliance Officer

5. Liaises with outside counsel on specialized research topics (e.g., real estate, ERISA, healthcare regulatory)

6. Deputizes for General Counsel on legal matters

7. Oversees outside counsel on litigation, in conjunction with internal Director of Legal Operations

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position would be expected to oversee 1-2 people in the legal department.

Job Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications/Experience:
• A minimum of 7-10 years of legal practice with a law firm or in-house legal department
• Good sense of judgment on practical risk vs. technical risk
• Excellent organizational, communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills
• Ability to operate autonomously, as appropriate, and desire to take initiative
• Strong interpersonal skills to fit in amongst collegial colleagues
• Preference for willingness to relocate to Colorado Springs, CO (relocation expenses would be reimbursed). A remote position from elsewhere in the country is a possibility for the right candidate.

Education/Certifications:
• Juris doctorate degree required
• Bachelor's degree required
• Current state license to practice law required
