Job DescriptionDistribution Engineering is seeking a highly motivated Engineer to join the G.R.I.D. Edge team within Distribution Engineerings System Design department. The System Design department is responsible for high tension, renewable and distributed generation analysis and interconnections, overall system analysis, design, standards, and engineering computer applications. The G.R.I.D Edge team is responsible for studying the interconnection of distributed energy resources (DERs) on our overhead and underground network electric grid. This includes, but is not limited to, performing technical analysis, commission testing, design review, meeting with customers, and participating in utility and developer working groups to remain up to date with technologies and the technical direction of the market. We are looking for candidates who are self-starters and possess a deep sense of personal accountability. ResponsibilitiesCore Responsibilities- Complete Coordinated Electric System Interconnection Review (CESIR) studies as described by the NYS Standardized Interconnection Requirements (NYSSIR) process
- Able to perform a technical review on Distributed Energy Resource applications which includes, but not limited to, electrical schematics, protection and control systems, specification sheets, and other submitted technical forms
- Utilize load flow tools (e.g. PVL) to analyze and propose solutions to mitigate identified impacts of interconnecting distributed energy resources to Con Edison's electrical system.
- Support DER projects through design, construction, and witness testing to commission the system for operation, including through site visits
- Direct, oversee, and review technical studies performed by contractors
- Support in the development and/or update of technical specifications for internal and/or external stakeholders as required
- Interact with both internal and external customers, DPS staff and various levels of management
- Comfortable in working in a fast-paced dynamic environment, handle multiple assignments, and meet deadlines
- Must be flexible, and be capable of exercising independent judgment
- Identify and take ownership of issues related to technical matters and/or process improvements
- Prepare, review and comment on Company specifications as required, as well as reviewing waiver requests
- Collaborate cross functionally with all internal and external stakeholders
- Perform other related tasks and assignments as required
- Comfortable in presenting to internal stakeholders, various levels of management, and external organizations
- Remain up to date with advancement in technology and/or equipment to support interconnection
- Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
QualificationsRequired Education/Experience- Bachelor's Degree In Engineering and Minimum 2 years of related work experience to include 1 year of engineering work experience Engineering work experience in (Regional, Customer, Generation, Substation, Central), Relay Protection, Substation Operations, Generating Plants, Electric Operations field organizations, Control Center operations/support.
Relevant Work Experience- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.
- Flexibility and the ability to exercise independent judgment are required.
- The ability to interact effectively with internal and external customers, support staff, and various levels of management is required.
- Experience using load flow tools to perform analysis related to system faults, power flow, and voltage regulation is preferred.
- Working knowledge of relay protection and control systems is preferred.
- The ability to interpret electrical diagrams and customer site plans is preferred.
- Knowledge of electrical switchgear and transformer configurations is preferred.
- Knowledge of relay protection is preferred.
- Experience working with Poly Voltage Load Flow is preferred.
- Electrical engineering experience is preferred.
- Experience working with analytical software such as SINCAL, CAPE, and CYME TCC is preferred.
- Knowledge of distributed generation interconnection design is preferred.
- Field experience involving the electric distribution system is preferred.
Skills and Abilities- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, etc.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Well organized, detail oriented and flexible to handle multiple assignments
- Ability to drive multiple projects to successful completion
- Demonstrated problem solving skills
Licenses and Certifications- Driver's License Required
Additional Physical Demands- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
- Must be able to work rotating shifts and 12 hour shifts, as needed
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment as required, during visits to various work sites.
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
- Position requires walking, climbing, and standing extensively.
