Job DescriptionThe Associate Director of Editorial & Content leads the Firm's editorial and content function, owning the development of the Firm's thought leadership and the marketing of that content across the Firm's channels, including social, video, podcasts, website, and email. The Associate Director sets the editorial vision, strategy, standards, and governance that shape how thought leadership and market-facing content are developed, prioritized, and brought to market, raising the profile of the Firm's priority, institutional, and emerging practices in service of strategic marketing and business development objectives.
The Associate Director serves as a principal adviser to Firm leadership, practice groups, and individual lawyers on content strategy and editorial best practices, partnering across the Firm to develop thought leadership, campaigns, and other market-facing content.
Lawyers are the primary authors of the Firm's thought leadership. The editorial and content function provides the strategic editorial guidance that shapes those insights into clear, consistent, and high-impact content aligned with the Firm's business priorities and brand.
The Associate Director works in close partnership with the communications functions (Public Relations, Digital Marketing, Brand & Internal Communications, Awards & Recognition) as well as Business Development and Marketing Operations to ensure content advances the Firm's business priorities, strengthens its market position, and delivers a consistent client experience across channels.
ResponsibilitiesContent Strategy & Editorial Leadership
- Establish and evolve the Firm's editorial vision, strategy, standards, and governance in alignment with business priorities and brand positioning
- Identify emerging legal, regulatory, industry, and client issues that can be developed into timely, insight-driven thought leadership and strategic campaigns
- Lead editorial planning, content calendars, and publication schedules to ensure coordinated, high-impact communications across the Firm
- Oversee the Firm's content portfolio, evaluating performance, identifying gaps, and aligning editorial investment with the Firm's strategic priorities
- Establish, maintain, and enforce editorial standards, style, tone of voice, and governance across all market-facing content
- Monitor developments in AI, search, and content discovery, adapting editorial strategy, workflows, and standards to keep the Firm's content visible and effective across evolving channels.
- Develop editorial guidelines and workflows that enable content to be efficiently adapted across channels and formats while maintaining quality, consistency, and accuracy
Lawyer & Leadership Advisory
- Advise Firm leadership, practice groups, and individual lawyers on the planning, development, and refinement of thought leadership and other market-facing content, helping strengthen clarity, relevance, editorial quality, and audience impact
- Guide marketing, business development, and practice leadership on editorial strategy for campaigns and other initiatives, including scope, sequencing, staffing, and resource requirements
- Help practice groups translate business priorities into sustained content initiatives that strengthen market positioning and support client development
Campaign Leadership
- Provide editorial leadership for strategic campaigns and major Firmwide initiatives from concept through execution
- Shape campaign narratives, editorial frameworks, and content plans that align with practice, industry, and Firm priorities
- Partner with marketing and business development colleagues to integrate thought leadership into broader client development and market positioning initiatives
Cross-Functional Coordination & Distribution
- Set the strategy for the Firm's digital content channels and lead the development of new channels that deliver insights to clients and the market.
- Ensure content is effectively developed, published, promoted, and measured across web, social media, video, blogs, email, syndication platforms, and emerging channels
- Partner with digital marketing, public relations, brand and internal communications, awards and recognition, marketing operations, and business development to maximize the reach and impact of the Firm's editorial investments.
- Advise on legal, ethical, and reputational considerations related to content, working closely with the Communications Officer, Conflicts and General Counsel as needed
- Lead editorial strategies that strengthen the visibility of the Firm's capabilities, lawyers, and market insights
Measurement & Optimization
- Monitor content performance and business outcomes, using performance data and audience insights to refine editorial strategy, optimize existing content, and identify opportunities for repurposing.
- Develop editorial guidelines and workflows that let content be efficiently adapted across channels and formats while maintaining quality, consistency, and accuracy.
Team Leadership
- Develop and mentor a high-performing editorial team, establishing the processes, coaching, and editorial discipline needed to consistently produce high-quality, business-focused content in a collaborative, deadline-driven environment
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, English, or a related field
- 10-12 years of experience in marketing communications, content development, editorial, public relations, public affairs, or a related discipline
- Demonstrated editorial leadership as both a strategist and practitioner, with the ability to shape content strategy, oversee execution of thought leadership and campaigns, and apply strong writing and editing skills to campaign positioning and messaging
- Demonstrated experience managing a content or editorial team
- Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and guide complex editorial decisions across multiple business priorities
Preferred Experience
- Experience in professional services, financial services, consulting, or another knowledge-based business
- Experience managing thought leadership campaigns, marketing campaigns, or other content initiatives, including editorial review and production
- Experience devising KPIs to measure content performance and making data-informed recommendations
- Familiarity with legal, regulatory, financial, or other highly technical subject matter
- Experience developing editorial strategies that support content discoverability across traditional search, AI-assisted search, and emerging digital channels.
- Experience developing content for regional and global audiences

- Deep understanding of editorial and production workflows, including review, content management, design, and approval processes, to set realistic timelines and expectations with lawyers and stakeholders
- Familiarity with AI-enabled content tools and workflows
- Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior stakeholders, including partners and Firm leadership
- Sound judgment on confidentiality, sensitivity, and risk considerations in content development
This position will require physical presence in Proskauer's offices on a regular basis (at least 3x per week, or more, if it becomes the policy of the Firm or as business needs require). The anticipated compensation range for this position is $220,000-$250,000. The actual salary offered will be based on a number of factors including but not limited to the qualifications of the applicant, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
