Full Job Description
The Associate Director, Clinical Supply Chain Sourcing Strategy and Innovation is responsible for advancing strategic sourcing capabilities across Global Clinical Supply Chain within Global R&D Sourcing (GRDS).

This role will lead initiatives focused on sourcing strategy, operating model development, vendor ecosystem optimization, process governance, and innovation to support increasingly complex global clinical trial requirements. The position will work closely with Clinical Operations, Clinical Supply Chain, Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Finance, and external partners to develop scalable, compliant, and cost-effective sourcing solutions.

The individual will drive continuous improvement through process standardization, knowledge management, data-driven decision making, and adoption of emerging technologies, including AI-enabled solutions, to enhance business efficiency and organizational capability.

This position requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, stakeholder management, and the ability to influence decision-making across a global matrix organization.

Essential Functions of the Job:
  • Lead strategic drug sourcing initiatives supporting global clinical trials.
  • Develop and maintain sourcing frameworks, governance models, and decision-making processes.
  • Drive comparator sourcing innovation and supplier ecosystem development.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for process optimization and operational scalability.
  • Establish sourcing intelligence, knowledge management, and best-practice sharing mechanisms.
  • Partner with Digital and Technology teams to evaluate and implement AI-enabled solutions and workflow automation.
  • Lead complex cross-functional initiatives involving Clinical Operations, Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Finance, and Supply Chain functions.
  • Support vendor relationship management, sourcing risk mitigation, and business continuity planning.
  • Conduct industry benchmarking and identify emerging sourcing models and innovation opportunities.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership regarding sourcing strategy, operational effectiveness, and future capability development.
  • Mentor team members and contribute to capability building within the GRDS organization.


Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • May provide project leadership, coaching, and mentoring to cross-functional team members.
  • Leads complex initiatives through influence in a matrix environment without direct supervisory responsibility.


Computer Skills:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams).
  • Experience with procurement, contract management, sourcing, ERP, and supplier management systems.
  • Familiarity with data analytics, dashboarding, workflow automation, and AI-enabled business tools preferred.
  • Experience working with enterprise digital platforms and knowledge management solutions.


Other Qualifications:
  • 6+ years of experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, clinical supply chain, sourcing, procurement, strategy, or operational excellence functions.
  • Strong understanding of global clinical trial operations and comparator sourcing.
  • Experience leading complex global and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Knowledge of regulatory, quality, GxP, import/export, and global supply chain requirements preferred.
  • Demonstrated capability in business process design, governance development, and organizational transformation.
  • Experience with digital transformation, AI adoption, process automation, or knowledge management initiatives preferred.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills within matrix organizations.


Travel: Up to 5% domestic and international travel may be required.

Education Required: 8+ years with a Bachelors degree and 6+ years with Masters degree

Salary Range: $141,600.00 - $191,600.00 annually

Please note that the listed range reflects the base salary or hourly range only. Non-Commercial roles are eligible to participate in the annual bonus plan, and Commercial roles are eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan.
