The Accounting Advisory function within S&P Global Ratings serves as the authoritative internal voice on accounting and financial reporting matters, ensuring that emerging standards, regulatory changes, and complex accounting structures are accurately interpreted and reflected in credit analysis. This team occupies a distinctive, high-visibility position at the intersection of accounting expertise and credit analysis, partnering directly with analysts, external investors, and market participants to uphold the analytical integrity of S&P Global Ratings' credit opinions. Impact
In this role, you will serve as a trusted accounting expert within S&P Global Ratings, translating complex and emerging accounting standards into credit-relevant insights. Your work will directly shape how credit analysts interpret financial reporting developments — and how S&P communicates those views to investors, ratings advisors, and the broader market.
Responsibilities
- Advise credit analysts on new and emerging accounting matters with credit relevance — including structured capital, AI Hyperscaler financing, debt vs. equity treatment, supplier financing, and leases — providing training and upskilling to strengthen analytical capability across teams
- Engage with external investors, ratings advisors, and other market participants to communicate S&P's views on the potential credit impact of accounting and financial reporting developments
- Contribute to the development of S&P Ratings criteria and analytical models, ensuring accounting standards are accurately and consistently reflected in credit assessment frameworks
- Participate in credit rating committees and management meetings, providing accounting expertise to support well-informed rating decisions
- Research and analyze datasets from S&P Capital IQ and external platforms such as EDGAR, publishing research and commentary on accounting topics with credit relevance
- Monitor the activities of accounting standard-setters and regulators, translating emerging requirements into credit-relevant insights; contribute to ad hoc analytical initiatives including AI and data automation projects
Compensation/Benefits Information
S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $123,000 to $190,000 Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual's geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses, and certifications. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan. This role is eligible to receive additional S&P Global benefits. What We're Looking For
Required Skills and Experience
- An S&P Global employee at this level would typically have 4–10 years of relevant experience in professional accounting, preferably at a large ("Big 4") accounting firm. National Office, Accounting Advisory experience or work with Accounting Standard Setters is a plus.
- CPA or Chartered Accountant designation — required for this role given the nature of accounting advisory responsibilities and direct representation with external market participants
- Demonstrated technical accounting skills, with the ability to bridge accounting issues with their related credit risk and economic implications
- Proficiency in financial statement analysis and accounting standards, including U.S. GAAP and IFRS
- Strong verbal and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex accounting concepts clearly to both analytical and non-technical audiences
- Spanish: Preferred — Professional working proficiency (able to communicate clearly at work in everyday situations and write professional messages); Portuguese: Preferred — Professional working proficiency
Preferred or Helpful Experience
- General understanding of credit analysis and its application to financial reporting and accounting assessments
- Experience in the corporate and infrastructure sector and its specific accounting considerations
- Experience contributing to analytical research, criteria development, or engagement with regulatory or standard-setting bodies
- Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent required. A master's degree or professional certification (such as CFA) is highly valued. We welcome candidates from traditional finance disciplines as well as diverse academic backgrounds that support innovative and critical thinking.
Additional Information
- We require all candidates who reach the final stage of our interview process to attend at least one in-person interview, which is ordinarily at your nearest S&P Global Ratings office. This must be completed before we can proceed to an offer.
- Employees are required to work from the office a minimum of two days per week.
